New F150 seems slugish

I have a 99 f150 4x4 with 5.4 97kms

I drove a 2004 and a 2005 f150 5.4 4x4 seems slugish compared to my old truck, where did they hide those 300 horses? Also does the new truck have some sort of torque limiting it would not spin tires in the dirt.

I want one but not if it is a slug.

wouldn't spin em in the dirt!! i'd test drive another lol- they're a bit sluggish at first, but once you break it in- most will do just about anything- if you really want to get all you can out of the engine, go up and read some of the posts in chips+programming forum. welcome to the site,
Justin

The '04+ F150 weighs like a billion pounds (well, really like 500-600 lbs) more than the previous generation F150 did, and the drive by wire setup isn't well known for fast response.

I could easily sell someone on an F-150, just step inside and buckle up

Wait until you get 5000-6000 miles

on it. Mine was a dog until then, now it runs great.

They are sluggish but all you have to do is buy an Edge or some sort of tuner to help that.

My little engine (4.6) would chirp the stock 17 inch tires on pavement. In dirt it would have spun out while throwing dirt all over. Can't believe a 5.4 won't spin dirt.
With tune/exhaust my STX will burn the oversized 18 inch Lariats for about five/six feet on hard launch.
And I have the 3.55 gears.

Something is wrong with this picture. The 5.4 makes a lot more torque and torque is what spins tires.

This week, I drove a 5.4 Scab with 60k miles, XLT with work package (7 lug rims, 4.10 gears). It absolutely smoked the 17 inch tires. They spun real good

At first my '05 FX4 seemed like a 'dog'. Around the 7000 mile mark it woke up. It is as fast to 55 mph as my '94 now or maybe a little quicker. At WOT it still takes a moment to get going. I have found not to 'punch it' from stop, but to get moving and then 'punch' the throttle. The '05 gets to speed with little engine groaning compared to the '94.

My '04 with 12,000 is still a slug. I'm not expecting it to get any better. my neighbors Dodge has A LOT more fun factor.

'Round here we don't refer to them as sluggish, we call them overbuilt.

You will be comparable to that Dodge with a proper tune. I also have a 2002 F-150 Supercab 2wd 5.4L. That truck was pretty quick and definitely could get up and go, my 2004 F-150 will smoke the chit out of it but it was still quick for a truck. In my opinion my 04 is darn quick for a truck, I think Eric can vouch for that. I think if there is one thing everyone should walk away from this forum with, it's the knowledge regarding our stock tuning and how reserved from the factory it can be. The 5.4L is a good engine, it's just misrepresented at the dealership. Get a tuner and don't say we didn't tell you.

Do I really need to say it again? Food for thought, what does the tacoma weigh, what does the Supercrew weigh? Whats the hp to weight ratio? Might as well say the 4.6 stang felt quicker than the Supercrew, those Tacoma's weigh nothing. Tacoma's aren't even in the 1/2 ton class.
