Tranny door code A??

Tranny door code A??

I waslooking through my manual and it doesnt say what type of Tranny I have. The door code says A. Its not listed in the manual??? I was looking for because apparently only certain types need to be serviced. Thanks for the help!

You have the 4r70e transmission. I also have the "A".

I believe the tranny should be serviced (flushed) at 30,000 miles.

A in '04 is the 4R70w. Light duty auto tranny introduced in 1994. Flush it every 30K with Mercon V and you will be good.

So the 4R75E can handle 750 ft lbs torque??? That is awesome!

That number is after the torque converter. So if you were to connect a 750 ft-lb engine to the tranny something will go boom. The trans can be upgraded rather easily to withstand quite a bit more power. Search the tranny forum there is a link somewhere to a Cougar/T-Bird board that has an article written by a former Ford Powertrain Engineer that lists what needs to be changed. The article was for the 4R70E, but I think that the 4R75E is nearly identical.

After the force multiplication of the torque converter. Don't be hookin up big block power and expect it to hold together...
