kickass fx4, broken front driveshift?

just read in a thread that you broke a front driveshaft. have one quick question. when lift was installed did you pull the driveshaft apart and grind out the slip yoke master spline, to set the yokes in sync?

Im not sure but I dont think so. I had the lift done buy a local shop. Why would they have to grind out the master spline though? They did offer to balance the driveshaft...Im not sure how they were to go about doing that though.

From factory the front drive shaft is not placed in sync so the ujoint will not articulate smooth at a greater of an angle. what you need to do if your using a stock driveshaft again.
is to pull the shaft off and remove boot. pull drive shaft apart. then with a cut-off disc grind out the spline on the male side that is filled in. when you go to slide together make sure both inner yokes at each end line up.

It is in the fabtech instructions and this is why it is mentioned you should balance the driftshaft. i never balanced mine don't notice a vibe.

where did the driveshaft break?

It broke right here...

I never noticed any vibration either in 4x4. I have heard there is a vibration at high speeds in 4hi but I didnt notice anything. It broke when I was in 4 low trying to get unstuck. I think I might have revd it too high.

i'd look into seeing if it was done because it is possible that it could of helped cause the failure. if it was running too steep with the lift without being done there is a chance it could bind badly while spinning i would talk to fabtech.

or make sure your next driveshaft is in sync.

You're supposed to key the driveshaft up front and I'm sure your installer did, it's in the directions. Dave, my 4wd went out today and it sounds pretty bad, we'll see in the morning, what a bummer.
