OEM Step Bars

My 2000 F-150 had the tube style step bars. I really liked the bars but they rusted really bad very quickly. I had them replaced twice in the first 36,000 miles (stupid Pennsylvania winters ). They kept rusting at each end where the metal tube connected to the plastic end caps. It would start as a bubble and then just work its way all the way around.

I want to order up the OEM 4" black step bars for my new 06 SC STX. I see they are now made of "corrosion-resistant aluminum tubing". Guys with the 04's and 05's, how are your bars holding up?

I am hoping the aluminum holds up alot better. I can get a set at my local Ford dealer for $300.00.

Thanks.

TC

The ones on my '05 FX4 appear to have small rust spots here and there on the aluminum. Not quite sure how that happens...

I have a pair of Westin Stainless Steel Nerf bars on my '97 SCab. They've been on there 8 years and still no sign of rust.

I suggest ordering the OEM 6", not the 4". The 6" inchers look much better and beefier and everybody elses 4" will look like baby bars..

I had the same black westins on my 01 scab and never ha any rust. I now have the factory aluminum on my truck and havent had any rust. Ive had tis truck since 12/04. Both trucks are always at the beach and island either messing around or fishing. I have had good luck with both.

I have the OEM 5" bars on mine. I was told there was only a 4" or 5" option from my dealer. I didn't know 6" was available. Take a look.

milo99, if yours are rusting you might want to get new one made of stainless steel.

Thank for the posts guys. I really like the look of the step bars over the plastic OEM running boards. I just don't want to go through the whole rusting out thing again. My buddy just bought an 05 Screw with the OEM plastic running boards and they have already faded to a grey color.

I'll check out the Westins.

Whitecrystal1 - I'm not a big fan of white but your truck is frikin sweeeettttt.

Hey someone's got a brain. Actually, been through two trucks between the old '02 and this one. Two '05 F-150's. One Lariat Crew Cab and one STX Supercab. I get bored easily.
