I've scheduled 3 or 4 road trips over the next few weeks.

Nothing here.

Have you ever run the numbers?

Do you know how much you are paying in 2006 inflation corrected dollars?

Do you realize how much a gallon of beer costs, or that bottled water you drink?

If a 50% increase in the price of gas is causing a hardship in your, or anyone else's family, you were doing something wrong in the first place.

Ever hear of "living within your means".

haha thats soo true... 20oz soda for > 1 buck...

The only thing that bothers me, is it takes me like 15 mins to fill up my 35gallon tank..

Stupid machines usually cut out at 75 bucks (some even 50 bucks), and it seems like the pumps are super slow!

Sorry Koolaid,

Have to disagree with you on this one. Exon just posted a 10 billion dollar profit "again".

Your arguments are right out of the oil companies press releases.

The price of fuel has a negative impact on the entire economy. Not just those that burn fuel to get to work, but the biggest impact is on the companies that use the fuel as a means of income.

The federal, state, and local governments are having to reprogram money from other areas to cover the cost of fuel.

I don't care what the cost of fuel is in Europe, and I don't care what the inflated cost should be.

If a 50% increase in the price of gas is causing a hardship in your, or anyone else's family, you were doing something wrong in the first place.
All I know is that those of us on a fixed income are being hit hard.

And I can assure you that we "were" living within our means before the prices went up a dollar per gallon.

Your comment leads me to believe that you are one of those that are profiting from the rest of us.

Enjoy.

Wait, you dont have the truck anymore? That sucks. You could be like me and make a 529 payment once a month and drive the truck with the same frequency, once a month.

Thank God for the Focus

My habits havn't really changed much. My 04 is used 95% of the time on the weekends for a toy, just like when I first bought it. The other 5% is pulling trailers/hauling when my 94 F150 work truck loaded with tools or other equipment that I do feel like unloading. We has started to drive our 05 ZX4 Focus alittle more, like for just running to town for grocerys.

But when I only fuel up my 04 (35 gal. tank) once every 4-5 weeks and 94 F150 with dual tanks (39.XX gal total) once every 3-4 months in the summer and once a month in the winter, so fuel prices are not a big deal for me. My main mode of transportation in the summer is my 2005 Yamaha Zuma scooter. Since most of our jobs (I am a carpenter for a custom home builder) are within 2 miles of my house, the scooter is great espeically at 80+mpg. And if we are working more than 4 miles from town, then one of my bosses just picks me up.

So I am in a MUCH better position that alot or most people are!!

My F-150 is not my daily driver, so the price of gas has not changed my driving habits with my truck even one iota. In 13-months of ownership, I have only put a shade over 700 miles on the truck, so gas consumption is not a big issue with my truck.

I would drive my F-150 every day except for two things. Gas cost for one. Although I could afford it, I would like to have a few buck to retire someday.
The other reason is I plan on keeping this truck for at least ten years. I just don't want to put miles on it unless I am pulling my TT, or going skiing in the mountians in the winter or something.
So right now my wife has a leased Dog caravan, that I use as a dailey driver. It gets turned in next month, so I am going to buy an older toyter, maddza, or such to haul my butt around at work during the day. I figure if I put 4000 miles on my truck a year it will be just about right!
So yes, I have changed my habits because of gas cost. But change is what it is I guess!

Ride the motorcycle weather permitting...40mpg and it will go 0-60 in three seconds, 10.5 sec quarter, tops out at 150. The old 5.4 with 800hp might be able to match that but..... to answer your question I have changed my driving habits

I drive my new 5 speed Focus and get 30 MPG from mixed driving...and then I hop back in the F150 to go cruising and have my habits changed? Well, yes, I drive it HARDEr and FASTER now because I go easy in the Focus all the time haha.

After driving a 2 liter 4 cyl you appreciate all the power the 5.4 really has to offer.

So far, looks like most here have another means of transportation to cut the costs on fuel.

Does this mean that our f-150's are a big luxury these days?

My opinion for what its worth..

F150 at 15 mpg driving 15k per year
1000 gallons of gas,, $3 per gallon, 3000 to drive her.

Honda Accord at 31 mpg
483 gallons of gas, $3 per gallon, 1421 to drive her.

Question becomes, is it worth $1580 per year for you to drive your truck instead of an economy car that costs dang near as much to buy. Which would I rather be in when a semi plows me on Interstate 75? Which one allows me to buy and take home what I need from home depot?

For me, I'll pay the extra.

Nope -- just a more "obvious" luxury nowadays.

I suspect that for most of the folks on this site (myself included) an F-150 has always been a "big luxury" given that relatively few of us truly need a fullsize truck in our day-to-day travels. We just drive our trucks because we want to, not because we need to.

Ditto.

This cost difference is negligible ......about $30 a week more to drive the F-150.
