Emergency brake

Anybody else have to push their emergency brake nearly through the firewall to make it hold?

Anybody have this fixed or adjusted? My dealer just says it is fine, just have to push it a long way - and all the way.

Thanks!

I have never engaged mine. I am now concerned that it might lock up if I did.

There is a small dust cap on the inner side of the hubs (this only goes for the back axle), pop that off (I believe it's thin rubber, about an inch in diameter. There is a small sprocket/gear in there you need to turn with an object. It will tighten/loosen each wheel's parking brake tension. Stock the parking brake did hardly nothing, with 37's it's a neat looking pedal. I need to tighten it myself.

Mine works fine with 37s and only goes about less than half way. My chevy used to go all the way. I am not sure how, but they adjusted it in the shop.

04's were too tight, causing vibrations and hot e-brakes. Maybe Ford has over compensated and made them too loose now.

There is an adjustment on the e-brake shoes. You will need to remove the rear rotors.DO NOT overtighten. This may cause some vibration issues....Paul

Talking To Tighten parking brakes

It is correct about the dust seal you will see it on bottom part of the back of your rotor it is about an inch long and qaurter inch wide pop it of and you will see the sprocket gear inside there is a tool for this your local automotive store should have it it looks like a mini crowbar and is very flat on both ends you stick in there on the gear and turn it in or out to adjust it tighter or looser simple process let me know if you have any problems you should use it often as you can or this system design will rust corrode and seize up on creating a big mess i was there trust me you dont want it to happen

Paul, you do not need to remove the rear rotors. I've never seen the tool mentioned, when I adjusted them it was to get the rear rotors off for new ones (seemed to have helped by loosening them). Boy were those fuggers a pain in the *** to get off, biggest hammer you can find is damn right. You don't need the tool but it would be much easier, I used a flathead screwdriver iirc. Good luck and let me know if you need a picture...it's really not difficult to find.
