I think I'll be going with the Escort/Passport 8500.

I want to buy it from a store locally. The cheapest I've found is $291 from Best Buy on sale. Does anyone know of any other places to check?

BTW laser jamming is still Legal, radar jamming is Illegal however
What I meant was that laser jamming is illegal in some states. I know MN, and then there are like 6 others. The passport SRX was ranked #1 with some "punch through" over 1,000 feet, but the cops shouldn't be shooting you at that distance anyhow.

But that's a lot of cash to be shelling out.

I had a Bell and now have an 8500 X 50. Both worked equally well with a few more falses from the Bell. If you are alone on a road all either will do is tell you when you got tagged by the officer who is about to give you a ticket. Make sure you are not the leader and there is some space between you and the leader, either will give you plenty of time to slow down when the "leader" gets tagged. If you get hit by either lazer or instant on radar both are just going to let you know you just got nailed.
If you buy the Escort be you buy from an approved seller or you will pay $50 for your warranty work as happened to me.

D! I have a whistler I paid like 140 about 2 years ago at Best Buy, it works perfectly. I do pick up grocery stores but so does my dad's 8500 and he paid $350 for that back in the day. I know that radars are 100% but I have been driving from San Antonio to Waco 180 miles for about 2 1/2 years now driving about 85-100 and never had a problem. (knock on wood). There are lots of State Troopers on I-35.

Granted you have to know when to speed and keep your eyes peeled I usually slow down at bends, going over hills, or when I see lots of brake lights! Before I had my radar I had about 5 tickets in 2 years...I'd say that it worked...

It is a lot of cash to spend on something like this. luckily I was able to rip it out of my dads is300 when he bought it off of some guy that worked for escort. haha. I like the flush display.. I actually use it as a volt gauge more than anything. its nice peace of mind, and its realy nice to know who's runing radar and who's not. still you gotta use common sense. I actually got a ticket once with it in my old car.. I forgot to turn the shifting feature on... duh. most of the cops around here use Ka every so often on the highway you'll get a laser tho.

Duke - I have the v1 and absolutely love it. it is hardwired and ALWAYS on.

I have mine mounted near top of glass by the rear view mirror on passenger side. Just within reach to hit mute when i go into HomeDepot or someplace with auto opening doors.

You still have to pay attention out the. Lots of "law" keep their radar totally black and then turn on at last minute. Hopefully you pickup someone ahead of you getting painted but if you are hit with an "instant on" ambush you can hopefull hit the brakes and get a few MPH scrubbed off.

Instant On:

Well isn't there a chance with instant on that a cop uses it ahead on someone and you v1 pics it up? Also, how far in advance are we talking distance wise on this v1? Is it past line of site, granted you have pretty good vision?

SON OF A DONKEY!

I just checked the hennepin county website and that cop posted the ticket from my birthday today!

That's $277 + $142 = $419 worth of fines in 30 days! I'm going to claim them as tax deductions on donations to the state this year. I'm not a bad guy and really a great driver. These are my first tickets in 5 years. I just get screwed on the 494 highway because it's so open and the truck is big and flashy and I'm usually going over the speed limit a little bit.

UHHH, this is beyond frustrating, on the verge of enraging.

I have radar detectors in my car and truck. I find it helps if you turn them on though.

Incorrect. Mike Valentine was the designer of the original Escort/Passport series. He left to create and market the Valentine 1.

I have a V1 in each vehicle. I've tried the competitors and V1 is all I'll use.

V1 and nothing else for me. I have had it on for every mile in both of my 150's. I hardwired it right under the mirror and have the concealed display on my steering column.

Ditto only with a V1. Instant on can still get you on an empty stretch of road.
