need help. no 4wd
well a few days ago my 4x4 quit working. so i read up on the problems people were having with the IWE solenoid and decided if thats the problem then by unhooking the vacume lines from it would lock the hubs right? well i did that and the 4wd still does not work. any ideas? its goin in the shop tomorrow and i just dont want then to get it in the shop and have everything work and say nothings wrong.

well i think i figured it out. i jacked up the front and put er in 4wd and spun the wheels by hand. the right front hub is not engaging but the left one is. so im assuming ive got a bad hub? this is pretty sad considering this is only the 2nd time ive used 4wd and it doesnt friggin work. this truck has seen nothing but pavement and only has 14000km on it. i can see this becoming an ongoing problem

if ur cv's are spinning it's definitely the hubs, sounds like just a simple vacuum leak. Is there any clanking or clunking? Sounds likes your hubs are just not engaged, rent a vacuum line pressure test tool (it's a hand pump, looks like a vice grip with a nipple/nozzle on the end). That is not the correct name of the tool but they'll know what you mean, checkers or Kragens will have it. When you get that test the line pressure at the solenoid. I drew a good picture of how the vacuum lines are ran lemme see if I can find it so you can understand where to check for leaks. Make sure on the back of your steering knuckle, your vacuum line is plugged in on each side...and pump pressure into the lines and see if it holds, there is a pressure gauge on the hand tool....
Wow I just rambled on about the wrong problem, just pull the lines from the solenoid and that will engage the hubs. If it doesn't engage your o-ring could be broken inside the hub, or the hub is damaged. Either way it's not a difficult fix at all. On occasion I forget about the hubs defaulting to locked when there is a vacuum leak. I am 97% sure this is your problem.
