I have had this happen on a regular basis, even when stopping to fuel up. The display only malfunctioned during cranking the engine. I too have a yellow top battery. One thing that I noticed, when running level 2, battery voltage reads 14.1-13.9 running down the hwy. When I shut off the truck it reads 12.2-11.9. Then I put in the edge on level 0 now battery voltage reads 14.6-14.4 running down the hwy. With the truck off the voltage is 12.5-12.7. With the edge on level 0 the display has worked without issue for the last few weeks.
