Winter is here w/ Edge Problems

Well the temps have been dropping to around 5-10 below at night and warming up to around 4-5 above during the days and I've noticed the wimpy battery that Ford installed is working pretty hard, especially in the mornings. So I decided to invest in an Optima Yellow Top battery. These things are mighty expensive I must say. I hope they are as good as they say.

I did make an appointment to get a block heater installed, but that won't be for a week. My drivers window would barely make it up and down this morning, so I have to get that fixed then too. Until then I guess I can't roll my window down.

Edge owners... Mine wouldn't fully initialize the screen this moring. Possibly due to the cold temps. Even when the cab warmed up I had to unplug the edge (it wouldn't shut off either) and re-plug it and it worked fine. Anybody have something like this happen before?

I almost feel guilty! NOT! It has been 71 down here in NC for the past 2 weeks. I wanted to go camping last weekend but I had too much work to do! Stay warm!

Yep the edge problem is just due to the cold temps. Ive had that happen to me when starting the truck up after cold nights.. Its just the liquid in the LCD display... its to cold for it

Its still warm during the day here, but we are having a little cold front this week.. Its 29F tonight...

Yeah you will love that Optima. I've had the red top one in my last three trucks and they crank the hell out of it in the mornings! That nasty front hit south Texas this morning like a freight train. I was sitting outside this morning drinking coffee at 5 am and it was 71 degrees. The wind came up and ten minutes later it was 40 degrees!!

I was wondering about the edge problem. Located in North Central Montana, the weather has been pretty cold this week and I also experienced the same symptoms...not coming on when I start the truck in the morning.

Yes they fit in the stock battery tray. Optima's are actually a little smaller size wise than the stock battery. Make sure they use the little spacer piece on each side of battery, this is what makes it fit snugly in the tray. They are awesome batteries and usually last 5-6 years at a minimum.

yea its just because its an LCD display and the unit is too cold for the display to work properly..

All i can suggest is, if you know its going to be a cold night to unplug the unit and bring it inside for the night, that when when you go out to your truck in the morning the Edge unit is still nice room temp..

It only takes half a second to unplug the edge unit, so thats what i would suggest trying..

On mine... it fit in the factory tray and they had hold down equipment for it, however the battery cover that is over the stock battery would not fit (maybe '04+ specific).

You can keep all that crap! It was 76 here yesterday. I washed my truck and detailed it. It's back to normal temps here today. 33 this morning and going up to 55 this afternoon. This is why I moved from MA to NC!
