Back-up lights

with winter here and pounding, my reverse sensors are as useful as my A/C until June- has anyone put on some aftermarket reverse lights- searched the mod thread, towing thread but no dice.
Im looking at the PIAA 1540's to shed some light on the situation... i haven't ventured to look at the belly-side of the truck to see where i'd mount them yet.

lemme know what you think-

why not get creative with your mountaing and do some bumper modifying?
Guarantee it'll get some looks, and you know they won't get knocked off or anything...

I Have The Fixed Mount White Knight Lights On My Truck... Absolutely Love Them. Makes A Huge Difference When Backing Up, Especially With Tinted Windows. If You Want Pics Let Me Know.

Matt- that is an install there- man i dont know if i could bring myself to cut the metal though!! if I did that, i would want to round the corners on the cut- those look like the 1500/1540's correct? do you like them? hows the output..

Xtreme- yea, id love to see some pics of your setup as well-

yeah if I were to do it again I'd try to round the courners but it was my first thick metal modification and I was a bit nervous. The light they throw out is AWESOME. I have real dark tint and I have no problem seeing behind me. They are the PIAA 1540 reverse lights. The install was a bit tricky the way I wired them, because htey can come on with either the switch or when in reverse or neither, its using a 3-way switch.

I've been meaning to throw on some reverse lights on my truck. I can't find a on-off-on (SPDT) switch that I like. I've got a wiring diagram drawn up where I can have the aux reverse lights off, on, or on with the reverse lights.

I'd bought some cheap fog lights from walmart or somewhere, mount them, then see how long they last. I'm going to fabricate a mounting bracket on attach them to either the back bumper or the hitch like Myst did.

I ordered some tractor work lamps from John Deere for some extra lighting. I'm gonna mount em on my Back Rack though. Let me know how you wire yours up when you get the chance.

Cabelas has these, but the pic is horrendous:

I've seen sets at pepboys as well, but they're a couple lights and wirse mashed into a bag and look very cheap. I need to find something near hidden but functional. Just moved and have to back down the driveway around the side of the house and half way across the yard. I've noticed lately that the light output of the brake lights on is more helpful than the reverse lights, but draggin the brakes isn't a good idea.

I have a set of PIAA driving lights like those above on an old Honda. Might have to find a good way to rig them up.

Those lights from Cabelas are literally taped to the trailer hitch....I'd have to pass on that one.

That ain't no good, I'm not much for taping things to the truck! I don't care for that style much anyhow, I like stealthy.

I was googling and thought...hmmm, wouldn't it be nice if you could get a Line of Fire, but just in white...well just maybe: http://www.purchaseexpress.com/dcbo_...d=1622&rid=#a2

No idea how the light output is and I don't need the turn signals or brake lights, someone is gonna have to take one for the team and try it out.

Also found a custom hot rod where the guy motorized his reverse lights, I guess they swing down when you shift in reverse. Nice, but a bit overkill for me.

Why not just use the KChilite 26f 2X6 fogs. Attach them to an angle bracket mounted on the hitch itself so they are tucked up tight against the bumper.

Ive been thinking about doing this for quite some time. Im looking at mounting something to the side of the frame rail, and will shed light about 10' back behind the truck, and pretty much illuminate from the bumper back. I dont need a huge spread, just trying to see a little better with my 5% tint.

And I definetly want a stealth look to it. And i dont have much ground clearance to give up to hang something under the bumper or under the frame rail.
