Hi.

Well, since you asked ....

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...96&postcount=2

... and so forth.

If you are going for looks or sound over function, and you are fully aware of the penalties, then sure Flows & Volants are fine.

But, if you are adding these components for performance, then those two are sub-optimal choices, as both actually impede the engine's ability to breath, rather than enhance it.

So. One kills bottom end torque, while the other kills top-end horsepower. You have just effectively castrated your engine. Sure, you can add a tuner to help, but look at the potential you are missing. This has all been documented & proven - you can delve into this further by searching.

Cheers
Bubba

Talking Gracious Amigos!

Thanks for all the ideas. You guys are really helpful. This is a wonderful resource for the Ford owner. I have to say that I really enjoy coming here each night and reading the posts. I have learned a great deal in a short amount of time. I hope I have been an asset to this sight as well(windshield air leak.) Anyway, I think I'll be getting me some weathertech floor mats from Satan Clause! I mean Santa. Whoops, guess I'm getting carbon deposits now! Later.:santa:

Thanks for the links to troyers posts..

I understand he is highly respected and has a huge wealth of information, but sometimes i dont believe every word that he says..

Im sure theres some true behind it, but i dont think we are getting the cold cut truth some times... (but thats just my personal opinion)

Hi.

With respect, I fully understand your position.

What you need to do is call him and talk to him at length. Then re-assess.

When you discover what this man actually knows, and how much he tests, versus all the BS & mis-information out there, you may just change your views....

Also consider that a lot of the info he provides was not determined in isolation - there were fellow members in attendance at those Dyno Days who witnessed the facts as stated. Hard to argue with that.

Consider as well that Mike's in the enviable position where he could be using & pedalling any products he wished - instead, as determined by comprehensive testing, he's found the combinations that actually work:

The top three on a basically stock F150: Xcal2 w/ custom tuning; AF1; Magnaflow SISO 3" catback. This is the system that works best... not a canned tuner, a Volant, etc, and a SlowMaster. Proven, time & again. Ask him about it. Being in denial because one chose the wrong product(s) is just human nature - no one likes to admit they goofed - but it doesn't change the facts one wit.

Trust me, you will not be wasting your time. Just ask Marc Carpenter.

Cheers

Here was my first mod for less than $100

Bought a IMCO SISO muffler. Cut off my old exhaust, clamped on this muffler, took it to the exhaust shop to run it out the side of the truck. Cost right around $100 for the muffler and the muffler shop. truck sounds great!

How about 2 tanks of gas. $100 doesn't get much mod wise and you get what you pay for.
