Air Intakes

All,
I have the K&N Kit myself, but I don't see alot of people with that particular one. Can you please explain to me what the others offer that this one doesn't, what is the best of the alternatives, and what benefits have you gotten from them?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Thumbs up Air Intakes

I have had the the Air Raid M.I.T. with a K&N Filter for three months now. Nice sound when you get into the throttle, still gets cool fresh air from the front of the truck. A decent alternative to a full blown Air Intake with open filter.

The Volant provides the closed box system. It takes the air from the inner fender and from underneath the headlight. If you think about it, all the open filter systems (AF1, K&N, etc.) are pulling in the hot air right off the motor.

I see a lot about Air Raid and Volant. It seems that based on your point the Volant would be the best one to have. It is worth a switch? Do you think?

In my own opinion, yes, I noticed a considerable difference after it was in, little louder, better response and a bit more power.

I went with the full Airaid kit.

Reason:
I purchased an Xcal2 from TP and Troyer Performance recommended the Airaid or AF1 due to some other brands throwing a "lean" code.

There is a member on this board that brought his truck to Troyers for one of the dyno days and had a brand new Volant on it when he arrived. He watched us dyno 4 trucks then walked into the showroom and brought a brand new AF1 and had us install it. Power increase was very noticeable after installing the AF1. And just in case you did not know, an open filter draws no more hot air than an enclosed one, except maybe at idle when the vehicle is setting still...Just thought you might like to know, and please don't take this as a flame to your statement. I just want you to know what we have found out through all the R&D'ing of the AF1 and a few other "open" intakes systems....

I like my K&N 77 Series. Great sound at WOT. It compliments my Flowmasters nicely. Great tone!

I was at that dyno day Marc referred to. He bought the last one and I had mine shipped when the next batch arrived - they wouldn't sell me the one from the showroom !! I scrapped my Airaid CAI ( still have it in a box now in the garage ) for the AF1 with the 3.25" intake. I should have just bought this one in the first place...

Did you have a Troyer tune before you got the AF1?
