Question Anyone self-install remote start?

Just wondering if any of you guys have installed a remote start system in your truck. (self install) Is it fairly easy or a real pain in the @ss, any help and or tips or advise would be greatly appreciated before I jump into this deal.

I did. Got it from kcautosound.com. Travis will prewire it and send you awesome instructions.

I took one out of my 2005 s-crew that was totalled. A local audio/video store installed it for a lot of $$ and I found out that it only requires about 8 wires to be tapped into existing harnesses. I will definately be putting it back in my new 2006 s-crew myself. A little hint..I made a cheat cheat with wiring colors when I removed it.

I just install th CA-670 From travis at KCautosound. It was easy. I had a problem programing it but all I had to do is call Travis on the phone and he walked me throught it. He even walked out of the super bowl party that he was at when I called. He has the best customer service!

Does your starter have all the bells and whistles? Like parking lights flashing when it starts, kill switch when you step on the brake w/o the key in place ect? Sounds like a good deal. Is there a led light on the keychain?

Thumbs up Thanks for all your inputs

I just ordered mine so now I am playing the waiting game... But I got the Compustar 2W900FM-S, it has a 3000 ft range which is way more than I need but couldn't beat the price $155 and another $15 for the key bypass that you have to have for our trucks.
Have any of you heard of a T-Harness for easier install I can only find one for the older model F150's.
Thanks Again

How do you like that unit? I am undecided on which unit I want to go with and I am probably not going to do the remote start, I just want a decent 2-way alarm that will tell me if the truck's being messed with with decent range, also I want the remote to vibrate or beep to let me know something's going on.

Thanks

It depends on your skill level.

I installed my own, and I thought it was easy.

Others would take one look at the wires, and run to the install shop.

Are you good at reading instructions, taking lower dash/steering column apart, splicing wires, etc?

I decided to have mine installed by a pro, I called compustar about the install and they said that if I install it myself there would be no waranty and/or tech support. Only $150 to install it. not too bad

Don't you hate that crap. I hate it since I'm 33 and been installing large audio systems in my vehicles since 16 and I work on multimillion dollar military aircraft avionics systems. Car electronics = peice of cake.

I really like it. I like the display, since it lets you know whether the truck is locked or unlocked, and if a sensor goes off, or if the alarm goes of. It also has a backlight, and it vibrates. The range is good when you have a clear line of site, but when there are obstacles, the range goes down a good bit..

If you are good with car electronics, and wiring, the alarm install is not that hard, the remote start is the tricky part. If you don't have any experience with that kind of work, I would suggest not to try it. Having acces to vehicle wiring diagrams is a huge help..
