Exactly. Tell me how many 10sec Mustang II's you see cruising around on the streets these days. RamSS/T has a very good point though, if you want to go fast, it's insanely cheaper and easier and more forgiving on the chassis to do it in a lighter vehicle be that a VERY light truck or a car. Duh, right.
If you have a wad of cash just itch’n to be spent on something other than an investment, then yeah, you can make anything go fast. Better watch out though, 700hp isn’t what it used to be. Today factory cars are rolling off the assembly line with 600hp and a 5 year warranty (the new Viper). Force some air in a cheap small block and 700hp on pump gas isn’t the drain on the pocketbook as was in days gone by. At the shows, these trucks are sure to garner much deserved attention. On the street, they still better pick their prey wisely. Even with a 10 street second car, I’m still a bit gun shy with all the blown small blocks lurking around out there. I’m still N/A. Maybe one of these days I’ll take the plunge, but for now I’m still relishing in my EFI.
Hat’s off to those here that have squeezed some serious ponies out of the 5.4. I have to assume that anyone putting that sort of cash into a motor will have also made an equal investment in the ENTIRE drive train. This includes the obvious transmission upgrade, but also the axles, ring-n-pinion, drive shaft….
If you EVER consider running your truck at a real drag strip and you’re making well north of 500hp, you better make sure all those items are upgraded. I found out the hard way what happens when the tires DON’T spin……
If your truck will only see street time, then the shock to the drive train will be considerably less. BUT, all it takes is that one trip to the track to quell the curiosity.
