The OE Motorcraft in my Escape had been working find since August 2000. That's almost 6 1/2 years so far. The 98,000 miles doesn't matter to a battery.

I actually just had my battery replaced at 15K miles, 2 years on it! Out of curiosity i've been keeping track of my battery voltage from time to time.... on a brand new battery after driving it for over 30 mins, the voltage is only reading 12.35 volts or so. One night i took it inside to put a trickle charger on it, and it seemed that when it warmed up (65 deg F or so) voltage went back up to about 12.55V.

Is anyone elses reading this low a voltage? I read somewhere that the voltage of a fully charged battery will be lower with cold temperature, so I hope its just this (its been about 10 deg. F night lately!)

Thanks!

I am confused on why you guys base the battery life on miles ? Battery life should be based on time. Considering those x amount of miles you traveled the alternator was spinning. (hopefully)

And 3 years sounds good to me.

If you are only driving your truck a few days a month (low mileage) you aren't really charging the battery properly and will result in a dead battery, that won't hold a charger sooner.

My 2004 has the original battery, I've got 51k miles.

Just hit 40k on my 3.3 year old truck, and just replaced the dying battery with an optima yellow top. Not bad since ive had my 1200w amp hooked up for the last year too
