Tacoma or my F150?? Vid of old man racetrack too.
This weekend I will be making the 900 mile trip to Jennings Raceway in Jenning Florida. Doing a race school and trackday on motorcycles. I made the trip in Jan 2007, and had a ball. It cost me $200 each way for gas. I am pulling a 7x14 enclosed trailer, with two bikes and gear.
This time I am traveling with another rider. Same load, however, this rider suggested that to save some gas money, we take his V6 Tacoma instead of my F150. Also, he asked me how much does my trailer weigh, so he can get a hitch installed on his Tacoma!! WTF!!
So, I will gently explained to him, that his Tacoma is not a match for my F150 in comfort and ease of pulling. Plus, if there is no hitch on his Tacoma, than I guess there is no towing package on his Tocama anyway.
In addition, my F150 glides like it is on a cloud with the trailer loaded with up to 4 bikes and passengers. Now, I have no doubt that the Tacoma can pull my trailer and its load, but I am talking about ease and comfort here. No way, that Tacoma is going to pull my trailer as comfortable and as easy as my F150.
I be leaving on the Feb 22nd, will be on the track Feb 24th and the 25th.
Just felt like posting, I haven't posted here in a while. I think my last post I was having a problem with my truck running rough after the 30,000 mile service check. Well, all that is fixed, and my truck has 38,000 miles, and rides like it is brand new. If they got something that rides better and troublefree as my truck, it has got to be the chit!!
BTW, here is a video of me in riding on the same track on Jan 13th 2007. It was 80 degrees that day.. Cool.
I am the second rider..

I just switched from an 05 Tacoma to an 05 F150 Lariat. I have to say, overall the seats are way more supportive and hold you in, in the Tacoma. I find myself holding on more from sliding around in the F150. Within in reason, it's like I'm taking 50 mph corners. The v6 is the tacoma is a sweet engine and plenty powerful. That said, I'll still take my F150 over the Tacoma.

I've gotta chime in here. I had an '04 Lariat SCREW and had my fair share of issues with it, but overall was a very good truck. When the gas prices went through the roof, I traded it for a '06 Tacoma Double Cab. Granted it was a great truck, but I never could get comfortable in it. Either I was sitting too far back or I was reaching for the steering wheel. It road like a wagon due to to the shocks and once I put a carseat in the back, I felt really cramped. The pulling power was good and the build quality was good, but it just wasn't what I was accustomed to. The gas mileage wasn't much different from my Ford. I averaged between 15-16 mpg and on a good day, it would be 17. I traded it for a '06 Lariat SCREW 4x4, black on black, and will never downsize again. I've been getting 15-16 mpg in my V8, plus she rides like a dream and plenty of room for the baby and towing anything I can hook up to.

A Tacoma would not pull it "just fine." The Taco 3.4 v6 is not all that and bag of chips. My ex-ex GF had a Doublecab Tacoma with the v6, and I had a supercab Ranger with the 3.0. I had self-modified intake, exhaust[between the two, i gained nothing but sound], and tuner on 87 and could hang with her truck quite well. I also upped my tires to 32s, and easily had 250-300 pounds of stero equipment in the truck at all times. Depending on whether or not it was from a stop, or a roll, I could even win. The 3.0 is a dog....
And, over the couple years I was with her I drove the Taco all the time. I didn't particularly care for the drive train at all...it felt bogged down.
A couple bikes, a trailer, and a couple passengers would put a very noticeable strain on a Taco... Toyota lover, Toyota hater, or completely unbiased...you can't deny that. That should weigh in at about 1/2-3/4 the overall max towing for that Taco. You'll feel it back there...

I would stick to the F150, you already know you will be comfortable. Plus, with the cost of the new hitch he probably would come out cheaper if he just splits the gas with you in the F150. He is gonna have to spend a $150 or so for the hitch. On a Side note, nice riding, I love my 02 GIXXER 600, gonna get an 06-07 Gixxer 1000 soon!
