BFG A/T, rim swapping, & ride quality?

I have been researching for days in regards to new tires for my 05 F150 Lariat 4x4. I currently have the factory 18" rims. BFG only makes the A/T in a LT285/65/18 and it is a load range E. I drive a lot of freeway and country back roads (about 4000 miles/month) and do not want anything that is going to beat me to death. I was hoping to get a load range C or D tire but there aren't many choices and I do like the BFG A/Ts. My other option is to buy a set of takeoff upgraded 17" rims from an XLT off of ebay and mount the BFG A/Ts in a LT285/70/17 load range D. I can get rims for around $250-300.

My main question is, for those of you running the E load BFG, what is your ride like? I tow a 21' travel trailer a few times a year and I also have a Warn winch and brush guard on my truck so there is no doubt that I need to ditch the P rated tires that are currently on the truck. I am getting some serious sidewall flex right now. Thanks in advance for your input.

I just put a set of 305/65/18 BFG AT KOs on. "E" rated. I can't tell a bit of difference from the "D"s ive had in the past.

I have the "E" rated 285/65R18's on the factory wheels, rides pretty much like factory.

I have a 2" leveling kit and 285/65/18 bfg at's on my fx4 and love them. I drive a lot as well close to 3000 miles a month and would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I have 15k on my tires and they havn't even started showing any wear yet. As for the ride, it's as good as a 4x4 truck should be

Well stated... I have the 305/65/18's (E rated), and the truck rides like a truck. It doesn't ride as smooth or quiet as the stockers, but its darn close. I like these a lot better than the 285/60/18 Terra Grapplers they replaced.... and they're just as good (if not better) than the Terra Grapplers in light mud / beach sand driving.

Same here. I've had mine on for a year now and love them. The ride is maybe a tiny bit stiffer than stock and I run them at 48 PSI. They are one hell of a lot tougher longer lasting tire than the stockers though.

I love my ATs 285/70/17s. They are as quiet as the stock tires.

I was wondering the same thing (D rating vs E rating) my tire store said the E would ride much stiffer and being 10 ply would be much heavier. Glad to hear this is not the case. I think I will go with the 305/65/18 Thanks for the info
