Spider gears torn up

I just went to the gear place and they popped the cover off and said that the spider gears were torn up and that had a chain reaction. I asked the guy what I could do strengthen it and said I could put a lsd in there. So right now that is the plan, they are going to change the spider gear out and put a lsd in there. He said ballpark around $800

I believe an LS would increase strain placed on your diff. Do you have the 4.6L? I'm guessing you damaged an 8.8 and not a 9.75. The freeway is the last place I'd imagine you nading the spiders.

Not being mean but I just saw a full spider assemble laying in the middle of the road on my way to the barracks. Kinda made me laugh a little. Good luck with your truck though.

Everything is getting done right now. Yes I have the 4.6/8.8. They said that a ls would DECREASE the strain so that is what I am doing... Not to mention driving a little slower...

I think they were just trying to sell you a limited slip carrier unit by saying it would decrease the strain. You should definitely just swap in the 9.75 axle, it shouldn't be too bad if you get it from a wreck. Would be a direct bolt in I believe.

No, the shop is correct. The LSD will help divide power thus reducing stress.

I can't do the swap right now... I don't really have the time or resources too... I would want to. Hopefully the lsd helps in comination with me not ragging on it.

It takes the power from the wheel that is slipping and sends it to the one that has traction in a nutshell. Hence Limited Slip. instead of doing a one wheel burnout in one spot, you get a short two wheel burn out that launches you.
