FX4 again!

So, I sold my 2005 Red/Grey with black leather FX4 about a year and a half ago to downsize. Well, I loved that truck so much, I think I am ready to upsize again. Same color and everything.

That said, should I go with a 2007 model or wait for a 2008 model. I can get a pretty good deal on a 2007 with X-plan and rebates. Is there any reason to wait for a 2008? Thanks!

I'd go with the 2007 and save a bunch of cash.

or find a new 06 that hasn't been titled yet for an even larger cut in the price...

The only benefit of waiting for the 08 is that... its an 08.

I would take full advantage of the rebates and x-plan for an 07 especially when it's closer to the end of the year when the 08's begin to roll in.

The salesmen will be tripping over themselves to get those 07's out.

I would go with the '07 for sure. I bought my '06 this Feb after and it was the last one on the lot. Had all of the options I wanted and more plus they discounted it alot. Huge discount with 0% interest is hard to beat!

The very best time to buy a new truck is when the new model year trucks hit the dealer's lot. I'm not talking about buying an '07 but a new '08. I buy a new truck every year, and I can typically get the next model year truck for the same price as the clearance trucks.

This late in the year, there's usually only crap left over on the lot and sales are sluggish. When the new model trucks hit the lot, it's perfect time to wheel and deal. You don't have to settle for what's on your dealer's lot either. Have them look in the computer and have them ship in the exact truck you want. As they have nothing vested in a truck not on their lot, I can usually squeeze them for another $1500 or so (advertising and dealer prep hold backs). For the last few years, my average OTD price has been roughly $4500 under invoice (before trade-in equity).

Just my 2-cents, but I prefer to buy a new model truck cheap than last year's model cheap (with 1 year of depreciation under its belt before it left the lot). Also consider the higher resale value of the newer model truck when you trade it in. I don't think model-year-end-clearance trucks are all that great of a deal.

Worland, how to buy a new truck every year?

Darin, Only reason to get an '08 is if you want some of the newer options, like the rear-view camera system. Otherwise it's the same as an '07, so go for an '07 to save money if you don't want any of the new options.

Aren't the 2008's already out? Thought it was August every year for the next MY?

Worland, how much do you typically lose each year when you trade up for another truck?

I've also considered buying a new truck every year. Mine now is paid off. When I buy my 2009 I will pay it off at purchase, no more crappy loans for years with interest crap.

I'm curious how you do it each year. Is yours paid off now, and each time you just lose a couple grand and just pay it off immediately so that way you have a brand new vehicle every year?

Very interested to find someone who's actually done what I've considered doing. Thanks!
