Strange Noise - Please help

First, bear with me here, I've got a decent vocabulary but no one can describe noises very well. Here goes...

My truck makes a "grumbling" noise whenever I'm stopped at a light. It seems to come from the steering box or somewhere under the driver's side dash. "Grumbling" and "gurgling" are words that come to mind. The noise stops as soon as I start driving again. And sometimes it doesn't happen for days. Other times it's really annoying. My very smartass girlfriend has been making fun of my new truck, I need to put a stop to this.

Thanks,
Gray

That "grumble" is your girl. Punch her in the stomach. That will put a stop to it.

seriously now, is the a/c running? Does it change tone with a rev? Does it change when you move the steering wheel? Does it change with more pressure or less on the brakes? Stick it in park or neutral does it stop?

Do you have the stock intake? If so, check to make sure that the inlet on the fender hasn't come loose. Mine did and it had the same symptoms you're describing.

Yes, I've had to do that as well.

Thanks for the help everyone. Impact, the noise is pretty uniform while at a standstill - putting it in park doesn't change anything and neither does turning off the a/c. I do have the stock intake so I'll go outside and check that right now...

Ryan you were right, the rubber sleeve had come loose. Thanks a million - I was close to taking it to the dealership

Good deal! I actually clipped mine in after it happened a few times. I used screws with big washers, it looks cheap but it hasn't fallen out again.
