I just bought a CB radio and am wondering were some people put theirs. My dad wont let me screw or dill any holes in the dash and the hole ontop of my radio is to small. Oh and i have an 2006 so if you have any suggestions please post thanky you.

I would like to install both a CB and scanner. Where oh where? I tried to get the local people who do police car installations to do it, but they refused. Strange, don't you think. Anyway, are there any electrical issues I need to be aware of for this sort of combination? Suggestions? thanks

 

I wish i had a picture but I mounted mine with heavy duty velcro strips under my steering wheel. Under the Shifter ****. It took a few times for it to stay. I would attach two strips to the truck and let it sit for a day so it sticks good. Its workin out great for me.

What CB did you get? CB Radios come in MANY sizes, from tiny radios (Uniden Pro 510xl, Realistic TRC-503 type) to larger, more common units (Galaxy 959DX, Cobra 148 GTL, President Grant LT, etc...). I would expect you have a larger chassis radio with more features such as sideband, talkback, variable echo etc... Which is why it is too big for the dimple on top...

The not drilling into the dash thing is not insurmountable, but we need a little more information on how the truck is laid out. The current model F150 came in a wide variety of interior and dashboard layouts, But I will go ahead and spill the beans on a good location that requires no holes to be drilled that are visible once the radio is removed...

Assuming you have an XL, STX, or XLT with a 40/20/40 split front bench, you would pull the fabric back on the front center seat by unhooking it from the metal lip, and pulling gently up... Clear enough to get the radio bracket onto the frame of the center seat, and mark where the holes for the mounting screws are to be drilled. Prefferably with a center punch. Once you have the center punch marks there, drill a hole slightly smaller than the mounting screws, then mount away and wire it up!

BTW, Since he is concerned with holes in the truck, you might want to use a stake pocket mount for an antenna, or a toolbox. If you mount to a toolbox, make SURE you ground it, and check and adjust the SWR of the antenna system.

If you can get away with it, your best antenna system will be an 18 foot section of RG8X coax with hand soldered PL-259s, to a toolbox mount, toolbox grounded to the frame of the truck, and if possible, a heavy duty stud mount like a Procomm HD mount, Skythumper Grizzly, or Predator Monster Stud. Top that with a pot belly spring in stainless steel (Hustler SSM-1, avoid the C-29 which is stainless coils with milled steel pucks and rusts quickly), finally top that off with a Radio Shack 102" Stainless Steel whip element, replacing the Radio Shack split lock washer with a stainless steel one from the hardware store...

If you mount everything right, you should drop right in to a 1.0 or 1.1 to 1 SWR.

 

Here's how mine is set up. I personally didn't like on the dash at all. It's out of the way and still easy to reach.

That's where I have mine installed during the Harvest, you need to cut a little hole in the top and run the wire threw there that's what I did, looks cleaner

 

That's exactly how I have my HAM radio set up... I plan on cleaning up the install one of these days...

 

ya i never got around to fixen up the wires

 

I worried about that but my leg never touches it. I'm not really tall but not short either bout 5'11". The mic. cord does lay against my leg but I never notice it. another plus is one cut to a grommit for the cables and 4 small holes under the dash and no more modifications.
