Falling in love with my first Ford' do you remember your first ford

I guess Mercury counts. My first car was a used 1984.5 Mercury Lynx. While it would get me from A to B most of the time, it was a total POS. The head gasket blew within 3 months. I've had all doors freeze shut (and I mean solid). Also while driving once, the gas pedal froze in the position I had depressed it, providing a very interesting challenge while on the highway. Glad that experience didn't leave any lasting impressions... Fortunately since then I've owned some very nice Fords including my current stable below.

My first car was actually a Ford. I picked up a 1978 Fairmont with a straight 6 and 3 on the floor for $100. The AM/FM/Cass was worth more than what I paid for the car. We had to trailer it home becuase it had rusted brake and fuel lines. Not to mention the body was about 1/4 rusted too. I drove it for a year putting tires, a clutch and exhaust on it. If I remember correctly, I sold it for $500 to one of my neighbors who drove it for a few more years.

I still have the truck, my brother mainly drives it now since he can not afford the car he wants just yet. I told him to drive so he can save faster for his VW GTI. The deal is, I then get to drive the GTI when I want .
Since getting the 97 ranger, I have had a 94 Stang GT convertable, 96 Thunderbird 40th Anniversary edition (with that cool blue/purple shifting paint, I miss that car). a 90 Ranger 4x4 with 9" of lift, and my current project 97 explorer with a EB D-44 front and 36" IROKS and of coarse the 04 F-150 4x4.
I guess I am kind of addicted.

My first ford and my first vehicle was a 1980 F100 with a 302. Had options like a faux wood grain interior, auto, dual fuel tanks and delux air. When I bought it for $500 it had a fried but drivable tranny, but the air blew as cold as winter.
Made some kiddy mistakes with it, had the tranny rebuilt and was very happy with the truck. It had no power, looked like hell, but it was very reliable and it took good care of me. But I really loved that truck. I took maintenance to the extreme but drove the hell out of that thing.
I was a kid, so I used to do the one wheel peel as often as I could. I burned off a fairly new set of tires. I decided to get new ones, but waitied too long. One rainy sunday morning, I hydroplaned and rolled it on I-10. I was fine, but that was the end of my first truck. I stripped everything onto my 81 F100 stepside that I bought for $450 with a running but moderately damaged 300 6.
I sold that truck for $1300 and started paying my student loans. Quite a few months later bought my first new truck which was a 1998 F150. Had a lot of nusiance problems with that truck and got frustrated and traded it in 2000 for a 2000 taurus used. Kept that until my wife wrecked it in 05. I Had a 02 F250 7.3 bought new in 02 while my wife drove the taurus. Sold that outright and bought my 06 that I hope to keep for a while. The wife wanted a honda pilot so she has one and we are both happy with it.

I remember my first Ford......it's my F150 and I drive it every day.
The first vehicle I ever drove was my Dad's 1986 Ford F250, diesel, manual 4-speed. I was driving that when I was about 11 years old....around the farm. When I got my driver's permit and I drove my Mom's car w/automatic for the first time it took me a while to get used to using my right foot for the gas and the brake. I would use my left foot for the brake because I was used to using the clutch.

My first Ford (and first car) was an 78 T-Bird with a 351M. Wrecked it 2 mos after I got, I was only 16. First new Ford was an 89 Mustang GT 5.0L 5sp, drove it off the lot on a friday afternoon, Friday evening had it in the garage with the heads off and the cam out. Installed the new at the time J-302 aluminum heads from Ford Motorsport (now FRPP) and the B-303 camshaft. Got it all back together on Saturday, left with the car on Monday to head back to San Diego (had to report back onboard the ship by Friday at 32nd St. Naval Station) While in San Diego with the Stang I went to JBA and had a set of their shorty headers and 3.55's put in (back then JBA was a ford only shop) and a Ford motorsport 160 MPH speedo. In 89 only the cali cars got a 140 speedo, the other 49 states got 85. Moved to Phoenix when I got out in feb 91, The car was stolen from my driveway on May 13, 91 never to be seen again. The police told me that if the car is not found within 2 weeks, chances are it never will be, well, its been 16 years. My guess, it went to Mexico, Nogales Mex (a border town) was a 3 hour drive away.

72 (Ford) Mercury Capri- $50 >>was hit in the front, I streightened the unibody, I welded new facia, left fender with a piec of the apron. New used hood with cobra jet scoop. The car already had somewhat of a body kit on it but I was working in a corvette shop at the time so I reglassed, reblocked the whole car and painted it. The electricals were in a speghetti mess I had to rewire the intsruments. The motor was a 2.8 v6, weber carb, solid lifters, close ratio gear box...looked like a baby 289, well but the dizzy was in the back. That is one car I wish I could go back and get.. without any rust.
2nd) 80 Mustang,, biggest POS ever..first week the driveshaft broke, I never respected that car, after driving it a year, somebody made me an offer I couldnt refuse... they gave me a 69 mustang and took over the payments on the 80. Wow huh.. that 69 was one of the best cars I ever owned. 302, auto tx, duals, I put Torino GT wheels it, looked sweet until I hit a trans am firebird head on, totaled it an still got 350 bucks for it.
4th) 68 F100 300 3 on the tree, I bought a low miles LTD 351W auto tx and swapped the engine to the truck. I put headers on it, modified the factory 2bbl carb, Pinto shifter in the floor, 79 hood, 79 plush seat. Pretty quick little truck, another one that got away though.
Ive had about a half dozen more Fords since, all trucks or vans, now I have a P71 96 model, (ex game warden car) and the 04 Scab.

My first was a '75 Mustang II ghia. My folks had bought and let me have it when I turned 16. Even though it was a V6 4sp manual, it still moved out pretty good. Dad had an old '66 Galaxy 500 convertible with a 390 4 barrel. I wish I would have gotten that instead, but beggars can't be choosers. Then I had a '66 Bronco. That was an awesome 4 wheeler. Wish I had it today. Then I had an '84 Mustang GT convertible w/the 5 litre. That car was awesome as well. Took a long hiatus and drove mostly Hondas and Acuras, but then got my '06 F150 at the end of last year. I have to say it is the worst Ford I have owned yet, but I still love it.
