K&N Drop in Air Filter... waste of money?

I use an Airaid drop in oiled filter with decent results. I get a minimal amount of economy (pre-Edge) around 0.5 mpg. I did not expect that, and still do not believe it really. The one thing that I did notice was the pick-up on the throttle. It really seemed to provide a little better response than with stock filters. I even threw the paper filter back in to feel the difference...and I still believe that. I have run oiled filters before and never had an issue with oil getting on the MAF sensor. I just like the savings over the long haul with these filters.

I ordered an AEM Dryflow for mine yesterday and it should be here today. It was $34.99 from Jeg's.
Oiled filters do not filter very well either. For example, the AEM Dryflow will filter over 99% of particles 1 micron or larger, while an oiled filter element will filter 94-96% of particles 2.5 microns or larger.
If you live in a dusty area you can see the dust inside your intake tube when you remove an oiled filter. <-- No Thanks.

advertised 100,000 miles between cleaning intervals. (clean them way more often though)
Ran either drop in or FIPK for 10 years now in several vehicles. In complete honesty zero problems with any of them. If it ain't broke....
