22mpg isn't gonna happen on a 5.4L...unless going downhill with a stiff tail wind. I've done plenty of mods..CAI, exhaust, programmer and nothing changed my mileage. best I've seen is 18mpg and that on the highway driving like a blue hair.

There are many of us who hit 22mpg. I have several mods (electric fans, removed cats, CAI, programmer, exhaust, etc). Just wait until the others chime in.

with it stock, there is no way you'll hit 22 mpg. keep looking bud. wait until the F-150 diesel comes out next model year, those should get killer gas mileage for a truck.

You will not see that kind of fuel economy with these trucks. You may get close if you dont drive faster than 50 MPH. After that speed your MPG will start to go down. At your normal highway speeds you are looking at 18-19 at best.

Those 22+ mpg trucks are mid-size or compact (i.e. Ranger, Tacoma, Colorado?)

Full size will be in the mpg teens across all manufacturers.

You need to choose between Full Size or 22+MPG, you can't have both.
If you could have both, this country wouldn't be in the mess it's in.

Not sure if you are looking for 2 or 4 wheel, but my 5.4 2wd SC gets 24 on the highway at 70-75. I don't think a 4x4 will ever get that on a consistent basis.

The best I've gotten stock was maybe 19mpg on a long highway trip. After mods I can get maybe 16mpg on the highway, and I average 12-13 around town.

There are a lot of factors which affect mpg that would not be considered actual. For example, I know people who check the prevailing wind direction and speed before making a trip across the country because traveling down wind makes a huge difference in mpg. Planning ahead can reduce the total cost of the trip, but it's not actual MPG.

I also get better mileage returning to Milwaukee from Minneapolis than going the other direction because Minneapolis is at a higher elevation.

I know many of you are not going to beleive me, but I constantly get 22 mpg on the highway and am bone stock. This is NOT an average MPG but 100% highway. This was calculated with the F-150 onboard computer and Edge programmer (which I only use to monitor parameters). I hand calculated my mpg during a long trip a few times and got around 21-22.

For my truck, the trick to good gas mileage is to keep your foot off of it. I drive 60-65 on the interstate and dont go above 1,500 rpms when accelerating. I also constantly get about 17 mpg in mixed driving.

I have a 2007 F-150 extended cab 2x4 w/ 5.4V8

SoCal Mileage

Considering you're in SoCal where highway driving is stop-and-go like city driving, I can pretty much guarantee that you won't see 22mpg...in any full size gas truck. As Raoul the goat herder said: "You need to choose between Full Size or 22+MPG, you can't have both."

Dude, if you need a truck, pick the year/make/model you like best and go for it and be happy with mileage in the teens.

That's good considering I could walk faster than I go through that tunnel in the truck I love going WOT in the tunnel with my truck so that kills my mileage
