OMG, why didnt i keep reading just 5 minutes longer

Alright, i got a broken shifter **** in my 2007 SCREW FX4. I searched and searched all day, i found lots of info, and went down to the drive way to take a look. Nothing was working, so i went back upstairs and SEARCHED some more. Found more info and said what the hell, and started pulling on things and cutting, like i saw on one thread ?!

After i completely destroyed my console shifter, and put a nice dent in the slide track from slipping with the screwdriver. I went back to the computer and searched some more. AND a few more posts i see that the 04,05,06 ***** are NOT the same as the 07. Im sad, now i have to shift to drive with a pair of pliers. Go ahead and laugh, i deserve this. Ill even post some pics! so everyone can see WHAT NOT TO DO on a 2007.

Im gonna go ahead and order the CORRECT shifter from tascafordparts.com. But could you guys help me go from here, I now know about the little hex 15 bolt. Just a little guidance would be appreciated. I also need part numbers for the shift track you can see i dented. I WOULD REALLY like to make this like new again. Thanks for help

Mblem

It took courage to post that and it will help others to not destroy their cars. Much appreciated.

I just don't understand why you would try to fix something mechanical while your truck is under warranty. And how was cutting away at it going to fix it?

Try this # 5L3Z-7213-T it's for a Mark LT leather handle and it's a perfect fit for an 07.

After you put your shifter back together just follow these steps

1. Put shifter in low 1
2. pull out on bottom of button far enough to get a flat screwdriver in behind the button
3. pry out button with screwdriver, chances are you will break the little clip that holds the button in, don't worry about it, the new handle has a new clip in it.
4. remove the single T-15 torx head screw
5. lift off the old handle
6. drop new handle on stub, replace the screw, pop the old button in place and your done.

As for your track that you damaged, you may have to buy a whole new shifter, I don't think they sell just the track.

I had that tear off in a torque frenzy trying to hold on. The dealer replaced it at not charge. I tried to glue it but it was a waste of time.

Ford warranty would have covered it for normal wear and tear. But now that you've destroyed it, its on you....
