sqealing f150
Hi guys I have an 04 F150 FX4 and have noticed a squealing coming from the front end. It started a few weeks back when the temps were around 35, in the morning it would squeal after it was moving. (it wouldnt make the noise sitting) Today it got colder now around 15, when I got the truck up on the highway it shifted into OD and then the squeal hit. It happens between 1900-2300 RPM's. If you give the truck gas it goes away, if you let off it goes away. I have done sone searches on here about this but there really isnt any fixes that I have read. I need help, this is driving me nuts.
Thanks

sounds like you need to replace your serpentine belt. Do a search on here and you'll see people talking about them... the consensus I've seen is that Gatorback (or something like that) is the best.
I still have my stock belt... it will squeek sometimes on a downshift if I'm getting on it. I plan to replace it with a gatorback sometime... maybe next summer.

x2 This sounds exactly like a serpentine belt issue. It might just need some more tension put on it and some belt conditioner. Check the belt and look for cracking or fraying. If you see any it's time to replace it. In the mean time you can get some belt conditioner from autozone to help stop the noise.

Guys thanks for the help. Im just not sure its the serpentine belt. It doesnt have that squeak to it like when they are going out. But I have heard it slip during summer when I got on the gas. This is a very high pitch squeal and only in the 1900-2300 rpm range. I just dont know. But I do appreciate the help.

you need to better define the noise... is it a squeal, a squeak, a whine, a screech?
I noticed Sunday morning that I would get a very faint whistle at certain RPMs. I'm 99.9% certain that it is my intake though. It was about -3° F here on Sunday.
But if you define your noise as a "Squeal" then I wouldn't look at the intake. I'd look at the belt or other moving components. If the Ford Tech said "Tensioner" then its still the serp belt, right?

I went through hell with my 2005 (when I owned it) with what I described as "exactly the same sound you can make with a wet finger rubber around the lip of a wine glass" at very specific RPM ranges - only when it was below freezing. I replaced the serpentine belt first - because it was the least expensive thing to do. Next, I replaced the idler and tensioner pulleys - with no change. Finally, I bucked up and replaced the alternator. Problem solved. You could even hear the alternator sing when you just spun the pulley once it was out of the truck. Even my dealer didn't believe it.
