New here with 4x4 question.....

Hey all. Have a question about my 4x4. On my 04 gmc canyon, in 4x4, the truck would go straight all the time or the whole truck would walk sideways. Now on my 05 xlt, the back end is constantly fishtailing, pivoting on the front. Why is that? I though maby my hubs wern't locking, but my buddies truck does the same thing. The best i can tell they both have fully locked transfer cases and they both have open front ends. The only difference I can tell is the GMC had the Eaton g80 locking rear end and the ford has limited slip with viscus clutches. I still don't get it. Any insites here? Thanks

The F150 probably has more weight differential from front to back. Also it could very just well be the tires, or maybe you aren't used to the throttle by wire yet.
The eaton should perform similar to a clutch based limited slip on a snow covered/icy road.
I've only had my F150 in snow a couple of times so far but no fish tailing here that was uncommanded.

The GMC had throttle by wire, and all 4 tires are the same. The front is deff heavier. But with the locked transfercase, if the back tires are spinning, so whould the front. Locked transfercase= all 4 tires spinning at the same time.

Alright, I see now what your saying, tires are not slipping rpm wise, the tires are just sliding sideways. Like if you hit the brakes and slide. Didn't think of that. They are street tires. I had nice all terrains on the gmc. Thanks.

Yeah I can fishtail easily with the throttle even in 4x4, especially with a limited slip. Same with my sport trac that was locked. Though it became a little different with front and rear locked, but that's another story.
