What intake is this? From what truck?

I just bought a 5.4 3v engine supposedly from a F150 2006 model. But this intake plenum that sits on top of the manifold that looks like a 4 legged spider, doesn't seem to come on the F150's unless I'm missing something. All of the 5.4's I've seen have a huge air filter housing directly over the manifold, not this "spider".

Anybody have any input?

Looks like a stock 5.4 intake manifold to me.

that looks a lot like my upper plenum...I obviously don't have the hood popped but all the reference points for me are the same.

I looked at some photos online and the expeditions I saw, had the same big airbox sitting over the manifold. Maybe it was certain models only? The little spider piece is the one I can't seem to figure out what it came off of. There's a throttlebody that goes between the two pieces, but I don't have the TB.

I popped my hood and I am going to retract my previous statement, that is NOT my intake plenum.

I'll take a pic of my wife's Expedition with 5.4. It's the same.

That is the intake from a 07 and newer Expy. I'll try to snap a pic of the one in my 2008 tonight

Might possibly be also from an Econoline or F-250

Curious as to why the intake plenum is any different. Powerband/torque curve reasons?

no idea...the Expy 5.4 is identically rated as the F-150 5.4

I can tell you this though...the damn thing is loud. you would think that with all of that extra baffling, and plastic that it would be quieter...hardly.

At 1,000 to about 2,200 RPM, it growls. I wouldn't mind getting a CAI just to get rid of that damn noise...at least a CAI sounds "mean"...it currently sounds like a pissed off cat

also, the MAF isn't on the intake tube where it is on the F-150...it's way down there by the headlight...almost on the filter itself.
I haven't seen under the hood of a 2009 F-150, but I wouldn't be surprised if that is what they look like. Expecially considering the 07+ Expy is the testbed for the 6 speed

apparently Google is my friend

well I'll be damned...that motor you have is at least a 2007 model motor

2009 F-150 5.4 motor

2009 F-150 engine bay
notice how it looks almost identical to my Expy
