Truck shuts down

Hey all..I have a 04 F150 SCREW that I have had since April 04, which I just paid off...so anyway, the past two weeks, I have had 3 times when the truck would just shut off and then I would have to put in park and restart without issue. The first time was when I was turning left onto a highway ramp and then another two times when slowing down from highway speed. I have changed battery after the first time but now have a suspecision it is a bad chip...anyone have input on this?

thanks all.

Roll into a autoparts store grab a fuel filter and the tool and while there have them see if there are any codes stored in the OBD.

I would have to agree with the others here and start by replacing the fuel filter. My '04 shutdown on me one time just as I reached the top of a short but steep hill. It never happened again between that time and when I traded it in about a month later. If I knew I was going to be keeping the truck I would have changed the filter.

My old ranger did the same thing, would cut off while I was driving. Changed my plugs and wires, problem fixed.

Ok, so Friday when I was scheduled to take to dealship at lunch the truck would not start at my office. It was stuck in Fail Safe mode...so I had to get a tow truck and they took it 25 miles south of atlanta to the dealership..turns out the issue was:Throttle Actuator Control System. They should have it fixed this AM. This leads me to another question..how many people bouhg extended warranties...I did and towing, parts, labor, etc only cost me the $50 deductable.

I have been having the same issue with my 2004 5.4L 3V as you. It began about 8 months ago when it idles in the drive way or at stop lights it will just quit, no sputtering or anything it just shuts off. Also It will shut off when I apply the brakes but it only shuts off right befor the stopping. It does not do it all the time there have been weeks at a time in between episodes. Have changed MAF, fuel filter air filter and plugs and have had computer reprogrammed at dealer. Other than this issue she rus rock solid. Let us know how the fix at the dealer works out for you.

My F150 seems to be running good as gold now. Not shutdown, no fail safe messages, etc. I also believe I am getting better response from when I push on accelerator...before it seemed to delay a split second...so if you have the same type issue, have them look at the codes to see if it is the Throttle Actuator Control System.
