I hope someone recognizes this.

Every time I start up, the 4x4 dash light blinks 3 times after all other dash lights have turned off.

It started shortly after the last time I sucessfully used 4x4 six weeks ago. At that time, the last time 4x4 worked fine, and after turning off the 4x4, then the 4x4 light blinked randomly while driving in 2x4, and has done so for 6 weeks.

Since then I no longer am able to engage 4x4, just the 3 blinks at startup. When I turn the electronic 4x4 dash switch, there is no 4x4 dash light.

After reading all the 4x4 threads, I have checked the fuses, checked the vacuum lines, and tapped on the small motor on top of the transfer case to no avail.

Does anyone recognize these symptoms? Thanks, MH

 

The shift motor was stuck and would not turn. I broke it loose, and reinstalled, but it would only shift from 4H to 4L. I removed it and manually selected 2H. I need a new shift motor! MH
