I am on my second red top in the 92'. First one lasted 6 years. You dont need part numbers- just go get a battery.

When the battery in the 05' needs replacing it will most likely get another Motorcraft.

I've had to replace two batteries under warranty in the past ten years. One was a red top, the other is a yellow top. I'm just not interested in paying twice as much for a battery any more. The OEM battery in my last truck lasted six years. I need to get 12 years out of a red top to make it worth twice the cost.

I dont know what to tell you. I walked in, found a red top with top posts and stuck it in the truck. Its been there ever since.

The part numbers most likley have to do with the size of the battery dimension wise. Call Optima and ask them.

Optima was bought out a few years ago.. and their quality went down a bit, unfortunately. I have a Yellowtop in my truck that is at least 6 years old and still going strong, but I have heard stories from multiple car audio shops saying they end up RMA'ing more Optima batteries than installing these days. I know my YT is about to drop a big turd; I don't know if I'll be replacing it with another Optima or go with something else (like a Kinetik Powercall).

34/78 is the size of the battery that goes in these trucks. Back in the early nineties, I used to live in Pheonix and the average lifespan of a traditional battery was 18 months. The extreme heat was the culprit. One of my instructors at U.T.I. told me that the traditional flat plate design used in most all batteries begins to warp at 120 degrees F, and the hotter it is the faster they warp. Once two warping plates touch each other, it creates a dead cell within the battery. Once a battery has a dead cell, it is junk, time for the scrap heap. Optima batteries use a coiled cell design and are immune to warpage like a traditional battery. Anyone who lives in the Pheonix area knows what kind of heat I'm talking about, it can easily reach 120 F under the hood regularly, it gets almost that hot outside the vehicle. By default, an optima should last a lot longer in that environment.

Just to throw in my two cents. I have run Interstate in everything ive owned. They are great batteries. I had one in a volkswagen bug, I have one in my F150, and im running dual marine grade interstates in my boat. They are a quality battery for sure!!! From what ive researched, Optima isnt bad tho, but when i was looking Optima was running way more as far as cost.... IDK

Another advantage to give Optima is being dry cell. No acid to worry about.

Are you rolling your truck on a regular basis? No need to buy into the Optima hype IMO. A regular battery does just fine for the 3-4 years they last here in South FL.

Had an Optima Yellow Top in my old truck and rolled it four times. It's now in my 04, still working. It'll be running 4 KC Daylighters again soon.
