How to install Jimmi Jammers and remove the exterior door handles in a 2004-2008 F150

Ok, so I decided to take the plunge and finally got around to installing these. These come from Jimmi Jammer and simply stop anyone from having access to the cables, that unlock your truck, just by prying the handle from the outside. It wasn't too hard of an install, but not having pictures and an install guide delayed me, since I didn't know how much time I'd need. It took me an hour to install the driver side, first, and then followed it up with 20 minutes for the passenger side one. I don't have rear door handles, so I didn't get instructions for the rear doors in a SuperCrew truck.

These instructions will also help you if you need to remove your door handle. I took the driver side door handle right out just so you could see how these mount on the back of the handle. Oh, these are also for a truck that has power locks/windows, so a manual door might be slightly different. One more thing, before I begin, I've only detailed the driver side door, but the passenger side door is pretty much the same. Once you do the driver side, the passenger side is a breeze. Remember, patience is the key, here!

All the pictures here are linked to a MUCH larger version. The pictures are 10.1 megapixels, so I've downsized them to 800x600 and just linked to the full size pictures on my server.

Tools that you'll need:
  • 1/4" bit
  • 7/32" bit
  • 8mm bit
  • 10mm bit
  • Flat Screwdriver
  • #2 Philips Screwdriver bit
  • Pliers of some sort

You'll need to pull off the cover that covers the speakers and remove the four 7/32" bolts around the speaker:

Pull off the cover that contains the power window/lock controls:

Use your flat screwdriver to pop the cover off the screws behind the interior handle:

The two bolts here are 8mm bolts, so pull these out:

There are two bolts at the bottom of the door panel that are 1/4" bolts, these will need to come out now:

There is one 10mm bolt inside where the power window/lock controls are, this will need to come out too:

Something I found that will help with removal and reinstallation of the door, remove these two plastic receivers that are behind the bottom of the speaker. Just use the pliers to pull them straight back:

Ok, now that all the bolts have been removed, you'll need to slide the panel up to remove it from the frame of the door. Do not pull straight back or you'll be looking for a new panel. Now that the panel is off the frame, you'll need to disconnect the interior handle from the panel. Just push this retainer tab back and it should pop out:

Now that you've got the panel completely removed from the door, you're going to be working directly on the back of the door handle. Be very careful working in here! If any of your nuts/bolts/screws fall, you'll be fishing them out! Without a magnet, this isn't an easy task! (Please don't ask me how I know...). You need to remove this bottom nut with your 10mm bit:

Part 2

I'm going to use pictures of the handle while it's out of the truck, just for illustration purposes. If you are reading this for help on removing the door handles, skip to the second part. Leave the handle in the door as you won't be able to install the handle if you put the Jimmi Jammer on it, while it is out of the door. I suggest using the supplied screw to pre-thread this plastic piece:

The plastic piece is here (looking at the whole back of the door handle):

Now that this is threaded, it will make finger tightening the screw a little easier. You should be able to slide the Jimmi Jammer into place, now and finger tighten the lower 10mm nut. You should now be able to put the supplied screw through the Jimmi Jammer and into the plastic piece that you just pre-threaded, a minute ago. Once you've finger tightened it, grab your #2 Philips bit and you should be able to tighten it up with your fingers, or use a tool like this:

Once the nut and screw are in place, you can put the door back together.

Removing exterior handles:
For those of you looking to remove the exterior handle, altogether, you'll need to remove the top nut:

With the door handle removed, that bolt is here:

On the side of the door frame are two rubber gromet things. Push them in and then pull them out sideways. Do not just pull on their edges with pliers, you'll just rip the edges off:

Behind the top one is another 10mm bolt, go ahead and remove that:

From here you can fight with the key cylinder ... or just remove it from the handle by using your flat screwdriver to pull out this retainer clip:

I disconnected the keypad wiring inside the door, at this point, and the door handle was able to twist its way out of the door. Just try a few times and you'll get it. Be careful with the bolts on the handle, that they don't scratch the paint on your door.

Disclaimer: This post is for information purposes only. I take no responsibility for you damaging any part of your truck. Please just have patience and work slowly. Don't force anything!

Hope this was helpful for someone and worthy of the board.

Cheers!

I might have put this in the wrong thread? If so, could a mod move it to the proper thread, please.

Thanks!

Lol, thanks. I was uh... hoping nobody would notice.

I was hoping to clean the interior, but time has been short. Figured I'd get the hardware in, while I had time and worry about cleaning it all up later. No point in cleaning the interior if I have to worry about repairing another theft.

I bought mine from http://www.trucksecurity.com/. They were really good and shipped quickly after the order. I had them in just over a week, including customs clearing (I live in Canada). If you have a special situation (like some of the guys here that have modified their trucks to have no key cylinders on any of the handles) then they'll specialise the package for you so that they fit properly.

Awesome write up. I didn't go for a Jimmy Jammer, as I imagined it resulting in a potential burglar causing more damage to my vehicle, but I did replace my broken door handle from the last break in. I didn't worry about replacing the lock cylinder though.

I would have to say that getting the door handle out of the door is one of the hardest things to do. Also I dropped the retainer clip for the lock cylinder and freaked out until I saw my new door handle had one LOL. Getting the new handle back in with everything in place was also quiet a task, but all in all it only took about 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

I'm getting ready to trade my truck in and dealerships are taking off for the broken door handle

If you decide to do this just remember that you really have to pull, twist, and wiggle the door handle to get it out of the door.

Thanks for the write up MtylerB, it was a great help!
