2004 f1-50 --- Cutting out when accellerating????
I just got a 2004 f-150 and I love it. It is the super cab, lifted a little and had a air intake installed when I got it.
Today I was coming home from a little hunting trip and noticed tha when the cruise would kick in to really accellerate it woudl cut out?
I took it off cruise and used the pedal and everyt ime I stomped on it it would cut out. It accelerated fine if I did it slowly of lightly stepped on the gas, but every time I really romped it it cut out.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!

The low on gas possibility but you should also change the fuel filter, unless you know it was changed in the last 15,000 miles. On another note, I would not be running an 04 with a CAI hard until I got custom tunes. You may do some serious damage as it is probably running lean. That could even be your problem.

I haven't taken it in yet but I noticed something else today. I got it on the freeway before it got warmed up and it performed flawlessly. I am wondering if it has something to do with it being hot versus cold? Would a fuel filter act this way? CAI, what is that? i apologoize for the lack of knowledge on the acronyms...I'll get up to speed though. Would the WOT be the cause like some orther guys were talking about? It seems a little wierd that you couldn't open it up if you needed to?
I'll keep posting more as I find out more. Thanks again!

CAI is Cold Air Intake. You said you have an aftermarket intake on the truck and it is a 2004, 5.4, correct? Those were known to have come from the factory in a near lean condition. Lean, is too much air for the fuel metered. If it was already near lean, and there is a CAI added, it can cause it to run lean which is a no-no. But, if that were the case, I would think you would be getting codes. The way to solve the lean problem with a CAI is to get custom tunes that provide a different fuel table for the amount of air you are taking in.
One other possibility is the MAF(Mass Air Flow) sensor. It may need to be cleaned. That would especially be the case if your CAI has an oil type filter and it could have been excessivly oiled.

It has 75000 miles. Where does one go for custom tunes? Can my buddy that is a diesel mechanic do it? Also, where do i find the MAF if it is an oil type filter?
Again i apologize for not being mechanically savey, but I am learning. I can do a lit of the work I just don't know how to diagnose the problems a lot of the times. I really apprecaiate all your help guys!
