question about buying truck. paint swirls.
im looking at a 07 lariat crew cab short bed column shift tan interior f150 with 39k on it. weve talked the dealer down to 26675 from 27545. everything looks solid to me. its a one owner, all maintanance done at dealer, drives great, no shakes, new tires and brakes, never pulled anything truck. no wrecks, stains inside or anything. the only thing that gets me is that it has those fine scratches all over it. the kind you get from running it through the non touchless carwashes, with the big wraps that hang down. i cant tell if i can get them to buff out or not, i took the truck to a detailer down the street that wasnt affiliated with them, and they put some wax on by hand and took it off by hand, it seemed to get a little better, then i had the dealers detailer come out, they dont use buffers at all, and he tried some of his wax on it, and it seemed to get a little bit better.
with a buffer and some good cut or polish i think most of them would come out. i told the dealer if they can get the scratches out id give them what they wanted in 2 days and a deposit on the truck today and they didnt budge. so i left it at im going to think about it. to be honest its a truck and it still looks great. its just in the sun you can see these fine scratches. i think this is a pretty good price for the truck.
i think im going to see if they call me back with a solution, and if not ill probably call them back tomorrow and put a deposit on it.
anythoughts?
i know its easy to say keep looking, but i feel like everything will have its downside. even if i have to spend a couple hundred bucks at a detail shop to have a rubbing compound and all done i think this truck is worth it. there are no other trucks in my area like i want, ive been looking for about 2 months now.

nothing a few hours with a buffer and some pads won't fix.
Usually the dealer details the truck to hide any flaws in the paint, maybe they didn't care.
If there are any fine scratches, you can sand them out with 2000 grit wet paper on a block, then buff with polishing compound and a white foam pad, then use foam pad finishing glaze and a gray foam pad.
If you don't have a buffer or want to try to get the marks out without buffing, you can try the finishing glaze on a soft cloth, doing one panel at a time.
P.S. you could have bought that truck NEW for that amount of money.
I use the 3M Finesse III product line on my cars, bikes, and trucks, and I use them on my customers cars too. A bottle of either product should be about 28 bucks. I know it ain't cheap, but a bottle of either will last you a long time.
I have been using the finishing glaze on my motorcycles for year to remove swirl marks. And it makes the vehicle really really shiny!

wow so 26,6xx is high for a loaded lariat with 40 k on it? the dealers being very firm he says this is absolutley as low as he can go, which i know is a crock of **** but. this is the only blue lariat i can find that doesent want 33 grand. most 07-08s i find with less than 40k on them dealers are asking 33grand. its such a nice truck in great mechanical shape, its a shame. im pretty confidednt i can get the scratches out, the dealer said he can have his guys wax it but they dont use buffers. i cant believe they wont take it to a detailer to make a sale. if he had told me hed get the scratches out he would have had his deposit in the next 5 minutes. well see what he does i guess.

what should i be paying for that truck?
im pretty set on an 07-08 lariat crew cab short bed. i dont care if its column or floor shifted with a black or tan leather interior. my zip is 24141. you can search for yourself. i wouldn't mind driving 200-300 miles to go see one, but i would have to have a way to get my mustang back home with me. i dont mean to sound set on this truck, but the fact of the matter is that it dives very solid for a 40k mile truck.

Also, the only thing a glaze will do is temporarily "fill in" the scratches, they will come back.

I agree. I paid 26,500 for my 07 fx4 supercrew and it only had 17k on the odometer. Leather, power everything, factory sub.

Believe I'd be making the drive to see this one for sure over the one you are describing:
2008 w/ 38k for less
Who knows how far you could haggle that dealership down.
