I would think the side mount closet to him would be the best, I think the front/back walls would be slightly awkward.

On March 27, 2007, Governor Rick Perry signed Senate Bill 378 into law, making Texas a "Castle Doctrine" state which came into effect September 1, 2007.[240] Residents lawfully occupying a dwelling may shoot a person who "unlawfully, and with force, enters or attempts to enter the dwelling", or who removes or attempts to remove someone from that dwelling, or who commits or attempts to commit a "qualifying" felony such as burglary, arson, rape, aggravated assault, robbery or murder. In addition, a shooter who has a legal right to be wherever he/she is at the time of a defensive shooting has no "duty to retreat" before being justified in shooting; the "trier of fact" may not consider whether the person retreated when deciding whether the person was justified in shooting.
Gov. Perry also signed H.B. 1815, a bill that allows any Texas resident to carry a concealed handgun in the resident's motor vehicle without a CHL or other permit.[241] Chapter 46, Section 2 of the Penal Code states that it is in fact not "Unlawful Carry of a Weapon" for a person to carry a weapon while in a motor vehicle they own or control, or to carry while heading directly from the person's home to that car. However, lawful carry while in a vehicle requires these three critical qualifiers: (1) the gun must be concealed; (2) the carrier cannot be involved in criminal activities; and (3) the carrier cannot be a member of a criminal gang.[242][243]

Texas has no laws regarding possession of handguns, shotguns, or rifles by persons 18 years or older without felony convictions; a rifle, shotgun, or other long-barreled firearm may be carried openly, however, a permit to carry is required for handguns (issued only to those 21 and older), and they must be concealed.
However, to PURCHASE a handgun, you must be 21 or older in every state, per federal law in order to purchase from a federally licensed dealer. You can, however, purchase a handgun at 18 in a private sale.

After you said that I tried it mounted to the front last night. That may work out better since the lid isnt in the way. Once everything gets here Ill have to start mocking it up.

I love this idea - anxious to see the final mock up and if the right handed or front mount is the way you go.
It's a damn shame we can't get universal gun laws - I travel the country ecxtensively - over the 4th weekend I drove from Shreveport, LA to Lisle, IL. Other trips are to SC, NM, TX and thru a lot of other states while to and from. While LA has a similar law, your car is part of your home and thus you can carry w/o permit --- but God knows how many laws I'd be breaking if I drove across the country with such a rig... but I love it and might do it anyway. Can't wait to see the mock up.

As a Texas CHL (Concealed handgun License) holder, I've been looking for a way to mount my Glock 27 in my truck. I usually slide it in holster between the seat and center console. That is, if I'm not wearing it on my ankle. The center console is too slow to get to in a SHTF situation. I like the under steering console mount.
Now, this is very important
You can not carry concealed in Texas without a license, unless you are considered to be "traveling". Now the term "traveling" is not defined in Texas Law, so it will up to an officer to decide if you are indeed "traveling", but it is usually interpreted as crossing counties to get a destination. Not casual drives down to the store or a friends house.

That's true. The under steering mount will not conceal the weapon from view. Maybe the serpa system mounted concealed, or just keep the thing tucked in holster between seat and console. It's cheaper too.
#44
Im not 100% sure that the between the seat would be considered concealed. Or to get it concealed you would have to push it so far down the seat that it would make grabbing it awkward. Unless you dont have the flow through console.
#45
No, it is concealed because it is not viewable. I can easily grab it. It's not wedged in the seat. It's actually on the floor, sandwiched between the rail and the console, laying butt up, muzzle pointed back.
