HELP any ideas?

Yesterday I was driving home from my one year anniversary and after coming down the grapevine about 20 miles outside of bakersfield while doing 75mph on 99. All of a sudden I heard a klung sound from underneath the truck and everything shut off guages etc no gas just coasting. Well I coasted to the nearest off ramp and then I had to step on the brakes hard like it didnt have power brakes anymore. So it stoped and I heard alot of engaging noise underneath like it was engaging the drive line back into gear it felt like it was like a safety mode like going into a nutural thing then when it stopped it engaged back in. The truck would not start no gauages came on when your turned the key on not even the miles on the truck would show up. Then the tow truck came to get it we couldnt even put the truck in nutural so he not by my choice dragged the truck onto the flat bed and towed it to ford in bakersfield. Any ideas what it could be its a 2004 f150 supercrew 4x4 with a 6 inch lift? Thanks

possible alternator failure shorted internally . i had the same thing happen to me once it turned out to be a shorted cell in the battery i was at a stop light and everything went dead and i think these trucks have a fuse-able link good luck hope its only minor problem.

On a good note I got an extended warranty. The tow truck driver hooked the battery pack to it still nothing worked.

No - this is the right section.

I think perhaps folks is just scratchin' their ***** in wonder that neither you nor the tow truck operator tried the shift interlock override as detailed in the Owner's manual (~page 158 or thereabouts) for precisely this situation:

"If you cannot move the gearshift lever out of P (Park) with ignition in
the ON position and the brake pedal depressed, it is possible that a fuse
has blown or the vehicle’s brakelamps are not operating properly. Refer
to Fuses and relays in the Roadside Emergencies chapter.

If the fuse is not blown, perform the following procedure:

1. Apply the parking brake, turn the ignition to LOCK, then remove the
key.

2. Open the center console bin.
Using a screwdriver, carefully pry off
the console finish panel surrounding
the shifter mechanism by inserting a
screwdriver into the latch slot as
shown.

3. Remove console finish panel
assembly to expose the inside of the
gearshift.

4. Press and hold the white button
located along side the shifter
housing assembly (as shown in the
illustration). Press the gearshift
lever release on the shifter **** and
move the gearshift lever back to N
(Neutral) (two places rearward from
P [Park]).

5. Start the vehicle and release the
parking brake."

Dragging yer truck like that sure did not help. Hopefully the warranty will cover any additional damage that may have been caused this way....

Good luck.

MGD couple of things first off thanks for the tip Im puzzled by the whole thing. My first opetion was I grabbed the manual and I went to the fuse box to look my only problem was being 6'5" and weighing 275 its hard for me to get to the box to see what fuses to pull. I did try pulling the fuse for the cluster but I couldnt get it out. I dont have a center console it has a bench seat and I guess I should have looked for information in the manual for that kind of information. I figured tow truck drivers would know but I guess thats what I get for thinking they know how to tow a vehicle. Thanks again

they want 500 bucks to replace a fuse? Did they have Rainman on this service, trying to diagnose the problem? thats insane bro, when they told you "something MAJOR electrical", that kind of gives you the thought that they already checked fuses..........
