Faded Fender Flares

I have a 2007 F150 FX4, over the years with sunlight and drive thru carwashes my fender flares have really weathered. I had about 20 minutes of free time today and decided to try and fix them without paint or replacement.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

That looked pretty good to me and was very quick. I used a propane torch and heated the flares up for just a second. There is nothing else on them just after I "torched" them. We will see how long it holds up.

Well damnit, I thought I would include pics, unfortuneately I'm retarded....if you want to see them , tell me how to include pics.

Well, due to lack of interest, I put the pics in my garage on my profile, hopefully I'll figure out how to include them in the thread.

Here are your pics, just right click on the photo, click properties, click on the URL of the photo that pops up and click copy, now when you make a post click the little mountain icon at the top of the reply window and in the pop up box paste your photo url in there and click ok

I went a different route with my truck, as I hated the look of the stock flares on a dark blue truck. I got hold of a set of take off lariat flares and had them painted to match and just swapped them out.

lariat flares after paint

installed on the truck

I also had my mirror caps done at the same time, as you can see in the 2nd photo.

That looks really good, I think I might eventually paint mine black. When the weather gets warmer I'm planning on painting my wheels black also. I am getting news tires tomorrow, so the flares had to look better for now.

Just don't hold it still too long.....you don't want the plastic to melt.

A heat gun will also work, and is probably a bit safer. I used to do that trick on the plastic flares on my jeep.

Looks good. I'd be interested to know how long it will last and how many times it can be done. I'm against painting parts like this because the paint rarely sticks and if you sand the parts to really prep them you lose the texture.

Other things to try are Black Wow (a dressing) and Showroom New Restorer (a dye).
