You want to see engine sludge?

So long story short. My shop went to do the cam phazers under warranty and this is what they found. The engine was saved with no damage found. It cost me $1000 in labor and flushes to get it mostley cleaned out. And the chain guids were gone, the chain cut into the front cover, and the gear skipped a tooth on the right bank. Then they were having oil pressure issues with low oil pressure after she was running again. The pickup ended up being 90% clogged with the plastic from the guides.

Oh yah, I just got it 5000 miles ago used. It drove like a champ, then one day it started to run a little rough with a CEL.

I got it from a local used truck place. They get trucks from Covert Ford. It was suppose to have been checked out by ford etc. I am talking to the place I got it from and I have sent them the pictures. They are talking to Ford about it and he said he will help me out one way or another. We will see.

Looks like the old Penzoil from the 60's. It's gotta be some kind of parafin based oil, YUCK!

How in the world did that engine NOT seize somewhere? I wish you luck in getting a financial fix on that one. One would think the the filter would plug up in no time or something...wow!

Yah it's like a waxy sludge. I flushed it acouple times after I got it and the shop did too before they took it apart. It didn't do anything to the sludge.

I got the truck with 72k and now she was 77k. I only have my service records. I kept track cause I know there warranty places can be a pain.

The shop I took it to owner is a ford tech and his other guys working there build race engines for mustangs and race them. At first they had little hope for her but the more they cleaned the better feeling they got about the engine. They said the camshafts on there will be the first to have issues with oiling problems. They looked them over and were pretty happy with how the engine looked.
