I don't think it really matters on a 2004 your keeping for 6-7 years. That will make the truck 14-15 years old when you sell, and at that point it won't be going for any more or less $ lifted or not.

Just my opinion, so don't take it personnally, but I wouldn't buy a lifted truck. Alot of guys throw on a lift and big tires and don't take into consideration re-gearing thus putting a good bit of stress on the tranny. If your thinking you are going to sell it just keep the stock tires and before you sell it remove the lift, remove the 35's and sell them for extra cash.

I disagree with this............IF you paid close to full sticker/asking price then yes; I would agree. But who does that?

In my area (Virginia Beach), I can sell my truck right now and make a profit off of it, and I've put 50k miles on it and had it for over 3 years ('04 FX4 I bought used).

As to the original question; which if I read correctly had nothing to do with dealers as the OP was asking about private party sales; no, I wouldn't lift it if you're worried about resale........even if it was a 4x4.

Now; if you keep all the oem stuff and switch it back to stock before trying to sell it, go ahead.........

But most (in my opinion) aren't looking for 'modified' vehicles when shopping. Most are looking for as close to factory as possible. This helps with the 'was it beat on?' mentality and such.

Are there those that will understand if the lift was done correctly that it doesn't take away from the vehicle? Sure. But that's a 'wait for the right buyer' situation; and that can take a while.

If you're talking about selling a 15 year old truck; sure.......after market parts won't affect the sale at all. It's almost expected on something that old.

But 6-7 years?

Lift it; but keep the stock stuff if your worried about resale.......

its 6 years old almost 7 next yeat , so if i have it for 6 or more years its 13 years old so i figure it cant hurt nothing putting a 6 inch lift on there and making it as big as i can

You just got it, how could you already be concerned with selling it? Like others have said, lifting could make it a little bit harder to find a buyer that likes what you have done to the truck. But the price shouldn't be effected in a negative way unless you trash the truck with it.

I'd do it if I were you and wanted to. I've had lifted 4wd's and 2wd's and lowered 2wd's. It's your truck, you paid for it, and you are the one that has to like it. I've had two 2wd trucks modestly lifted on good tires with lockers that would go anywhere I needed them to go and my 4wd trucks lifted or stock rarely see 4wd except to exercise it once a month or so. I work on pipelines as well so I spend a lot of time off road in my trucks. The few who would bump their gums to me about lifting a 2wd truck had pavement princesses anyway so their opinion meant little to me hahaha.

Your truck, your money, spend it in a way that you enjoy because we only go around once.

My truck is a street queen and I wouldn't not tell you to lift it. I know most 2WD trucks can go as far as most 4WD trucks can depending on the driver and the equipment they have.

No problem, if you know how to drive the thing and you have enough ground clearance.
