First time Rear diff. fluid swap

Changing the fluid this upcoming weekend first time for the truck and first time for me. I got a link in a previous thread about how to do it but it was for a F250 I've pretty much got the work part down pat. I just need some help with what all I'll need to do it. How much gear fluid etc.. Thanks - D

9.75 axle with factory limited slip?

Capacity is 5.5 pints. You will need 3 quarts of any brand full synthetic 75W-140 gear oil and a bottle of friction modifier from the Ford dealer. You will need basic hand tools, a drain pan, a suction gun to pump the fluid in, and either a tube of black RTV or a cover gasket (or both, your choice on how to do it). If you don't have a suction gun, you may be able to stick a hose on the bottle nozzle and do it with gravity and squeezing the bottle.

Make sure you can get the fill plug loose before you remove the cover!

What GLC said. lol.

I would add a razor blade to scrape off old gasket and a couple of rags. Not as clean of a job as an oil change. Even for a first timer its not more than a 90 min job. Only other tip is to slowly pry off cover so a you dont bend it ... The Ford Brand fluid is pricey - anything else is cheaper...

Tip if you can find Royal Purple, has the friction modifier in it, saves a step.

Before the vise grips... first give it a good soak with penetrating oil and let it sit a few hours...
