Help.

WTF am I supposed to do? I have 127k on the dash I had all the coils and plugs changed and the fuel filter changed. I am at my wits end today after finding that one of my cops was loose and not seated well, so I tried to tighten the bolt down but to my horror I found the hole was stripped and will not secure the cop, which I fear is causing my truck to buck while under load going up hill or accelerating around 55-60 mph. So how do I use the bolt and get it to secure the cop and stop my truck from running poorly?

you can try teflon tape/loc tite but the best way would be to just tap it to the next size up

If you do not have a scanner to check codes yourself, take it to an auto parts store and they will likely scan it for free. If a missfire is your problem caused by a loose COP,take it back to where you had the COPs and plugs changed.

when you say tap to bigger size do you mean just use the next biggest bolt that will fit?

I have not thrown any codes, the check engine has not come on, this is whats so frustrating.

Either way, I would take it back to whoever did the work. You paid good money to have it done right. Done right is what you should get when you get your truck back.

You wont be able to just thread a bigger bolt into the stock hole. You will have to tap it to the size you want to use.

Take it back.

Let the repair shop do the repair to their 'work'. They did it, make them repair it.

At 70k when mine started bucking, it threw no CEL but the computer had stored a cyl #1 random misfire. Changed the plugs and boots and it was gone. Doesn't hurt to check them and see if it's there with no CEL.

I used the term "tap for a bigger bolt" with a friend of mine recently. He actually got a bigger bolt and "tapped" it in with a hammer !!! I guess thinking thats what I meant. I have since learned to just play ignorant and tell him to see a mechanic.

Am I the only one who questions bringing the truck back to the place that stripped the threads in the first place? I wouldnt bring my truck back to that place again!

If you are uncomfortable doing it yourself, I suggest you find a reputable shop and have them do it. You can do it...its not that difficult.

Sometimes I think there should be a lock on the hood .... but then how will they learn? I guess best to let them learn like I did, it's just more expensive knowledge these days.
