Thinking of buying used

Looking at a 2005 f150 4x4. With 70,000 miles. Truck is extremy clean on and out. Just wondering if there is anything i can look for mechanically that might show a problem. Dont wanna get syuck with a money pit as i am takin a loan for it. All info will be helpfull. Will be my first full size trick.

Check for leaks, do all the windows go up and down, regulators are bad on these trucks. Does the 4wd system work good? any sounds or thuds. Have the plugs been changed? if not might want to see if you can work a deal. Many threads about the spark plugs. Does the rear slider work well? It tends to stick and need greased periodically. Tranny shift smoothly? Does it have a diesel like idle? Injectors are the cause, their just noisy. Look up in the '05 model year, states that the injectors tend to freeze up and dump fuel into engine. Suspension components look good? any squeeks or rattles? Let us know what you intend to do.

If I were buying that truck I'd insist on the plugs being changed if they haven't already done so. The injectors on the '05's have an extended warranty because of problems with them. Those will be the two big issues to be aware of with these trucks.....

bought my 04 lariat 92k miles ,a year ago and got a good price. had the plugs changed a few months later mechanic broke one. ended up being almost 600 bucks for plugs and now a year later i have discovered it burns thru 4 of the 7 quarts of oil over 3k miles. i am looking into engines now and looking to spend another 3k or 4k on it if this engine goes out. hope your luck is better than mine... check into a warranty. i wish i would have got the one my credit union offers.

pull the oil fill cap and tube, get a flashlight and look inside the valve cover. It should be nice and clean.

Wish I could help, I walked into my truck at 20K, one test drive about 5 miles there and back and I was sold. Bought it on that alone.

Complete impulse buy.

Good luck on what ever you do!
