Matt's '07 Retrofit Build Thread

Hi guys, feel free to follow along (or not). I'll be continuously posting updates on this as I make progress. Starting a new job tomorrow, so I'll be doing a little at a time. I used to run a DDM kit in stock housings, but realized how blinding they were and pulled them out. Promised myself that I wouldn't run HIDs again unless I could do a proper retrofit.

Well, I sold a camera lens and will be using some of the profit to do it. I'll be following powerz69's awesome how-to thread and will be doing the headlights like r1lukasz did. The only difference is mine will have clear or blacked out reflectors....haven't decided yet:

Step 1: Order materials.........

Step 1 COMPLETE!

Ordered:
--Headlights with clear reflectors (eBay)
--Chrome turn signal bulbs (eBay)
--Stage III kit mentioned in how-to thread

And the guinea pig....wish me luck, guys!

Thanks! Only looks good cause it was just detailed. If you do it yourself you'd save a lot of money. Following the how-to thread, I'd estimate $475 for everything (kit, headlights, tools). To pay someone to do it would add at least another $200 to the mix, if not more, depending on what you want.

If a mod sees this feel free to move the thread to the Lighting & Illumination sub-forum. Just now noticed it.

Should look nice when done! Clear reflectors is the way to go! Reason is because you can toss in some LEDs that match the color of your HIDs and it looks super clean. I'm a bit biased...

EDIT: So what bulb color and shrouds did you choose?

Ended up going with the Apollo shrouds and 5000K bulbs. I knew I'd go 5000K from the start as I prefer white to blue or yellow. The shrouds just came down to what looked the best....and after seeing a few of the Apollo shrouds I was sold.

Which LEDs did you go with? Could you post a link to them?

These are the ones I got. For some reason they are priced higher and currently out of stock.

These would also work:

Sweeeet, thanks. Looks like a simple plug-n-play into the reflector bulb socket.

Wow! That looks like a cool project. I'd get lost some where while I was doing this.

X2 on the truck being immaculate once again
