05 intermittent starting issues

Just started this past week, cranks, but wont start. turn key off and back to start, then fires. some times I need a couple tries.

Is there a known issue I can look at first?

Besides fuel pump, what else could the issue be?

05 STX 4x4 - 4.6L - auto

do the search for the fpdm or fuel pump driver module. its back by the spare tire mounded on a crossmember. it is aluminum and is a very known problem. replace it if you plan on keeping the truck

Mine did that a couple times before the battery went south.

I will check the FPDM this weekend, thanks for the tip!

As for the battery, It is original, so I have no problem with changing it. But it cranked over without issue, not showing signs of being weak.

I thought about a crank or cam position sensor... no clue where they are even located or how difficult to change. I know they usually are a cheap part.

I just bought the spark plug removal tool... I have yet to change the plugs on my truck... embarrasing to say, it has 199,000 miles on it.

Like has been said in the thread you jumped into, the tool does not apply with a 4.6.

Go get the battery load tested - Autozone can do that in the vehicle and it takes about 2 minutes, and it's free.
