break in

last friday my 06 f150 was broken into. person was after my in dash navi unit. nothing was taken. what really made me mad was the fact that they were able to open my truck with not too much trouble. popped the lock cylinder unlocked it and opened it.
is it really that easy to open these trucks???

they didnt get my navi unit cuz i made some metal brackets to hold the unit to the dash instead of using the privided thick plastic ones.
when i say they poped the lock cylinder i mean the lock cylinder is now at the bottom of my door.

If they want to get it, they'll get in. The only thing you can do is slow them down enough for their chances of being foiled increases. IMO, it's too bad you can't put some 9mm holes in them for just breaking into your truck.

look up the tennis ball method... my buddy had this happen to him with his f150 and they were in and out within 30 seconds walking away with a few hundred dollars worth of stuff.

I'm a fan of detachable faceplates, although carrying them around is a p.i.t.a, especially a double din one, and I was still hit once because they could see my powered sub. Some argue it's a sign that there's more inside, but any visible nav unit, crappy portable or otherwise = gone here.

sadly yes it is that easy for them to break in. My truck got broke into using the "popped lock cylinder" method. And my truck was right outside of the fire station I was working at. A week later my mom's truck (2008 F-150 Screw Lariat) was broke into the exact same way.

But I'd prefer to disable the lock cylinder all together

I see where you guys are coming from, but as 4.6 said - if they wanna get in, they will. Take a hammer to the window and pop the lock from the inside.

Take precautions by parking under street lights or concealing all your valuables - and don't "advertise" anything.

Don't forget, you have insurance.
