extended warranty

Debating on whether to get a refund on my extended warranty. I bought the truck (06 xlt with 42k on it) in December and got a 3 year 36k mile extended warranty. I think it was 1800. Does anyone think this is worth it? I can refund it now for around 1450 or so and am tempted to do it. I think my truck will hold up just fine till 78k and with my mods I think they would try and f me out of any coverage for anything major that would break(intake, exhaust and programmer) should I get the refund or keep the warranty?

Personally, I'd get it back. In my line of work (broke college kid), $1450 is a lot of gas.

For one you over paid for your coverage IMHO.

But I have an exhaust, drop in filter, and ran a tuner for a while, and never once had a hassle with a warranty claim and I've had quite a few. :/

Its up to you, I wouldn't have paid that much in the first place, I purchased 64k extra over 4yrs (To get my truck to 100k miles covered) for under 1,000.00 with a 50.00 deductable when service is required. Its paid for itself I'm sure by now, so at 73k I've got quite a while left with coverage.

Did u get a third party warranty or from the dealer? If third party, let me know which one. My deductible is 200. I probably did overpay but its from the dealership, so they didn't get me on the price of the truck, but did on the warranty. 5k under book value when I bought my truck.

Its Ford ESP "ExtraCare" with a 50.00 deductable.

I bought it thru the dealer when I purchased my truck, I indicated that an extended warranty at a good price was a necessity to me buying the truck from them, and they made the deal work. This was in 3/09.

To me extended warranties are crap and never cover anything. My dad made the mistake of buying one a few cars ago and when he blew the headgasket they wouldnt cover most of the work.

I'd like to know more details on this...

Mines covered a lot of things and I'm fairly certain its already paid for itself 2 years into the 4 years of extended coverage. I'm thankful I bought it, but to each thier own.

I would cash it in and put it in savings. I have never bought an extended warranty for any product and have never been sorry. In the first 130,000 on my truck, I have spent nothing on it that would have been covered by a warranty.

Well it didn't work out exactly as planned, but I returned it. I couldn't cash it in as I don't own the truck. Even tried to see if they would apply the refund towards the next 4 months payment and that didn't work either. They said it can only go to the principal, so it will pay off in the end. I owe 18 before the refund so it should get it down to 16500 or so and then I am not upside down at all, so if I ever decided to sell or trade it in it will be good. Truck books for 22 or so, so let's just hope it holds up or I'm getting a diesel.

Well it covered replacing the headgasket but there were also other parts that needed replacing like the belt tensioner and it wasnt covered.

A few other things werent covered at other times either. Its been a while since he got rid of that car so I dont remember exactly what the deal was.

In any case the headgasket repair was $800 and the warranty was $1200.

Ford ESP would not cover my broken power seat, even though their policy said it did. Never again.
