The 2008 would be better pick. The spark plug issue went away late 2007. The cam phaser I believe was resolved after 2006 model.
Buying late year model of same generation is usually best option, with all the bugs worked out hopefully.

only problems i've had was 3rd brake light leak and driver side window switch, both easy fixes.

I have looked here before, searched, etc ..... what is defined as "Late 2007" (meaning model year I guess)?

Meaning 2008 trucks still got 2007-made engines which still have the "problem". In any case it's not a big deal as you should be able to change the plugs without much issue on a 2008 since it likely has less than 65K on it at this point.

If you want a later 08 with the redesigned heads, look for brown cop boots.

There is a sticker on the engine that tells you when it was made. The door jamb on the driver's side holds the truck build info.

My 5.4 build date 05-26-07 and has black boots.

Thanks!

I know to be very dilligent and have a Lisle tool handy when the time comes. She has 37,500 and change on her now, when she hits 60-70K I'll change them.

I doubt you'll need the Lisle tool. I had the same thing (an 08 F150 with black boots) and changed my plugs at 65K miles. No breaks, and the plugs looked just fine after following the removal procedure of letting them soak in penetrant oil (I used PB Blaster). Plugs still had plenty of life in them. The only thing I'd recommend is that you make sure to put some Nickel anti-sieze on the extrode shank for good measure. I don't intend on removing mine until it hits 150K or so.

Thanks for the direct and up beat and speedy reply!

Might push that back to 70-80K?
