First Ford. 2006 F150.
New to the forum and new to the ford world
I just bought a 2006 F150 XLT supercrew with 21000 miles. It is the 4.6L, 4X4. Completely stock. This is my first Ford. I've been a dodge/Jeep guy since I was a kid. But this seemed to good of deal to pass up. Is there anything I should watch out for or be careful of with this truck? I know its the little V8 but doesnt seem to be to bad.
The first things I plan on doing is a rough country 2.5" leveling kit with some 285/70R17. Also trying to spice up the plain interior but not sure where to start or what to really do. Any tips and advice welcome!

Ive got the truck you do only in supercab, more miles (by a lot) but no issues what so ever with it mechanically. I dont know much about re-gearing, but Id say probably at least 4.10's if not more with that size tire. Your truck probably has a 3.55 or maybe 3.73 in it right now, pull the code off the axle to check.
Good luck with it, it will run forever if you take care of it. It will not be fast, but it will always get you there.

Welcome welcome! As the fellas above said you'll probably want to reagear eventually. Your rearend is an 8.8 inch rear, as well as the one up front. At the moment I'm running 275/70/17's with the 3.55 open diff without any problems. I would like to regear, but that depends on if I ever get around to buying larger tires or not.
As for the motor, the 4.6L 2V is a very reliable motor. It's been used and abused in everything from F150s to Crown Vics and will treat you well with proper maintenance. Just remember that it's not a racecar and you should be good to go.
My 05' 4.6L SCAB is just passing 125k miles with (knock on wood) no trouble and I'm not always the most on-time when it comes to oil changes and such (usually change oil between 7500-8000 miles). I've also done enough towing with her in my neck of the woods to know her weaknesses. Only thing I've noticed is my motor has a pretty loud tick, but it seems to be the injectors and is normal for this motor. She'll want to downshift alot on steep inclines and when passing, it's just the nature of the drivetrain.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new purchase! With 21k on the clock, she's just nicely broken in for you!
