Bought A F150 Platinum Today, Did I Do Good?

Pics later, take delivery on Monday, they are getting the truck from another dealer.

Basically I got the options that came on the sticker, no dealer add-ons:

2010
Black Exterior, Black Interior (also known as Sierra Brown).
Lariat Premium Discount Package (Moonroof, Sony Nav etc. in that package)
Tailgate Step
Skid Plates
3.55 Axle

I used X-Plan for the price.

Sticker MSRP = $50,265
Invoice = $45,741.60
X-Plan = $45,833.63

Rebates were $4,500 + $750 Coupon Mailer.
= $40,583.63
+ $75 Documentation Fee (most allowed under X-Plan)
+ $1 Filing Fee (not sure what that was but heck it was a $1)
= $40,659.63

I traded my 05 FX4 Screw in so more came off that price. They gave
me a pretty good deal on the Screw and I didn't owe anything on it.

I read here people were getting Platinums for $10,000 off MSRP but in all reality I can't see how that's possible. That is a considerable amount below invoice (over $5,500 below invoice) even when considering the dealer holdback I find it hard to fathom getting a deal like that.

Thumbs up Sounds right on!

Sounds right on. I know when they first put up the Build & Price for the 2009MY, a Platinum with every option just topped 52K. It slowly dropped to about 50k over time, but it was still up high when I went and ordered mine in Feb of 2009. I ordered a Platinum with every single option possible except the useless-to-me trailer brake controller. When it arrived at the tail end of March 2009 I got it for 12k off the MSRP on the sticker which was just a tad under 52k, so about 40k. My 2004 Lariat w/every option possible except overhead entertainment system, netted me the exact KBB trade of that time of 10k. Then I added on the TTL and a few dealer accessories (bedliner, RMST and rear splash guards), which made my loan about 32k when all was said and done. Now, from the 52k sticker to the 40k price I got it for (before my 10k trade to bring it to 30k loan before TTL and accessories) I have no idea what they called all the discounts, rebates, etc... all I can tell you is that it went from a 52k sticker to a 40k cost to me to buy said vehicle, savings of 12k off sticker price on my truck's window. So however they sliced 'n diced it, I got the 12k off. Made me very happy, was right in line with what everyone else was getting off their Platinum's at the time, and got the KBB top value for my trade also which made me happy, so I had zero complaints at the time I ordered/purchased.

That's how mine went. But smartly, last I checked anyways, a fully optioned Platinum had dropped to around 50k (which still stings, but what can you do). So for you to get one for 40k out-the-door seems perfect to me. Think you did great. Now go enjoy her!

As an aside, I've finally started seeing a lot of '09's/'10's driving around the past few months. Until this spring/summer, it seemed they were still rather rare as I hardly ever saw any at all, but they've started to become commonplace this spring/summer it seems. But one thing has remained rare, and that's a Platinum sighting. I see a lot of XLT's, FX4's and a bunch of Lariat's about as well. But Platinum sightings are still a VERY rare occurence. You can't miss 'em with that beautiful grille or emblazoned tailgate! I think you got a great/standard deal on her - time to go show her off!

Looking at your post here are the difference's between what you wrote was on your sticker/truck and what I ordered on mine:
You got (and I didn't):
Skid Plates
I got (and you didn't):
Full Coverage Floor Mats
Stowable Bed Extender
I assumed you got a 5.5' box length and 4x4 (same as mine).

Ya, I guess I was under the impression people were getting 10K off the sticker then they were taking off the rebates after that. My approximate 10K off the sticker included the $5,250 off in rebates. So maybe I was reading other people's posts wrong.

I ended up with a manageable financed amount as they gave me a good deal on my trade. $16,500 for my 05 FX4 Crew Loaded W/78K Miles and tons of factory looking integrated aftermarket stuff (Navigation, Amp, QLogic 10" Form Fitting Sub, 4 Alpine Type-R Speakers, Sirius, Magnaflow, Console Vault, Complete iPhone integration etc.)

The $10,000 off includes the rebates and programs. You did fine with that part, but the bottom line depends on what you got for the trade in. That is where they make the money. That and the extended warranty and add ons.

True that. Sounds like he did great with the trade though, especially with all the aftermarket stuff Ford usually doesn't like and the 78k miles. Make me jealous. I can't believe trade values have gone up so much on the '04MY trucks. Then again, the '09's are holding their values very well, so that's a plus I suppose when I decide to trade this one in. Ford sure seems to be on the right track with everything lately, let's hope they don't lose sight of quality, like toyo did, and pump things out too quickly before they've been tested thoroughly for safety, maintence, etc. and then start getting hammered with recalls. The delay on the 2011's I'm sure is a good thing in the end, better quality than quantity.

You did get 10K off sticker all in. That is what I consider 10k off. I'd say you got a good deal, there may be another 600 or grand in the deal but why squeeze it dry...

thanks guys, for me it was a no brainer... i had just paid off the 05 after five years and basically with the deal i got on the 2010 and the trade money they gave me on the 05 i've just extended my loan another 5 years with basically the same monthly payment (actually a little less) but except now i get a new 2010 Platinum to drive around.

had to haggle quite a bit on the trade though, it's amazing how stingy some dealers can get, at one point they agreed to the 16,500 on the trade but said i'd have to get my window tinting and rhino lining done through them.. i said no, they said ok, what if we do them at cost, i was kinda confused, i told them, cost? how does that make a difference for you if your not making any money off the tint and lining, that we might as well just do the 16,5000 trade and be done with it... they thought about it and i guess figured out how dumb that offer was.... i tell you, sometimes it makes you wonder....

Great decision. I have a Black/Black Platinum myself, the 2009 edition. But in regards to the price, I managed to pull 34K off of 48K. But I haven't seen many people get that much off.
